Proposed Queen’s Scout Outdoor Program
Rock Activities

Introduction

This is a set of proposed set of objectives for the Queens Scout level Outdoor component of the Venturer Award Scheme. It is recommended that the objectives included are suitable for Venturers seeking to attain the award, and should be presented to your Unit Council for approval. Your Unit Council is entitled to discuss variations to these objectives with the Rock Team for individual Venturers, if unusual circumstances exist.

Proposal:

Participate in the ACT Branch Scout Rock Activity program, over a period of six months and undertake training and assessment for the Abseiling Level 1 qualification.

Individual Objectives:

  1. Attend and participate in a minimum of three rock activity weekends, or six full days of rock activities program including theory and practical training as defined for the qualification including:

a.  Care and cleaning of rock activity equipment;

b.  Fitting, using and care of personal rock activity equipment;

c.  Identification and management of risks in rock activities;

d.  Setting up and preparation of equipment and sites for rock activities;

e.  Safety checks in rock activities;

f.  Communication in rock activities;

g.  Single rope belay systems;

h.  Abseiling on natural surfaces.

  1. Undergo practical assessment for the Abseiling Level 1 qualification.
  2. Complete and submit the Abseiling level 1 workbook.
  3. Understand the Scouts ACT Rock activity policy and associated safety rules in relation to the Abseiling Level 1 qualification.
  4. Record all activities in the scouts log book, which is available for download from the ACT Scouts website or from the Rock Team.

Total Proposed Time

The proposal includes a minimum of 30 hours.

A rock team gear hire cost of $20 is payable on the first day.
