2011 Winter & Spring Community Schedule

Tax Season Financial Education Training & Financial Counseling

MACAA is a VITA (Virginia Income Tax Assistance) site where staff and volunteers are IRS certified to prepare standard deduction (only) tax returns for individuals who meet the income guidelines and who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Assistance Credit (EITC). Tax appointments will be taken M-W 9:00am-4:00pm, Thur 4:00pm-7:00pm, and Fri 9:00am-12:00am. Please call 434-295-3171 ext. 3002 to make an appointment.

Financial Education and Financial Counseling will be offered along with free tax preparation. Representatives from Clear Point Financial Solutions, JABA, Legal Aid Justice Center, and Wachovia will be partnering with us for Financial Education Training at MACAA. A Personal Banker from Wachovia will also be on call to meet with clients before or after tax appointments to discuss personal finance questions. Call to schedule an appointment with a Personal Banker when scheduling a tax appointment.

Financial Education Training

First Thursday of the month 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. join us at The Haven (Located at 112 W. Market St, First Street Church). Receive personal and financial tools in group and one-on-one settings. *

Thursday’s 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. join us at MACAA (Located at 1025 Park St.). Receive personal and financial tools in group meetings that feature topics on goals, personal strengths, budgeting, credit, checking, savings, loans, and avoiding consumer risks.


Last Friday of the month 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. join us at MACAA (Located at 1025 Park St.). Receive information on Family Economic Security programs and determine the services that will best meet your personal and financial goals.

* One-on-One meetings will be offered following Financial Education Training at single *starred* sites. There is potential to receive additional one-on-one assistance from specialized presenters following Thursday training at MACAA. Details about individual meeting times will be provided.

Please also note that any meeting time is subject to change depending on Holidays, mandatory meetings, or time out of the office.

Description of Training

*Goals & Strengths for Making Change – Use tools to identify goals and personal strengths for personal and financial growth

*Informed Decisions for Wise Spending – Determine how to make wise spending choices by creating a budget and understanding the wise use of credit

*Consumer Skills, Rights, and Responsibilities – Obtain knowledge of smart shopping skills, rights, and responsibilities to be protected from high-cost loans and other forms of predatory lending

*Investing: Financial Growth & Wealth – Learn how you can invest your money by opening and maintaining checking and savings accounts

Training is FREE and open to the public. Public Transportation is available through CTS. Check Route 1A for maps and schedules to The Haven (112 W Market St, First Street Church) and Route 2A for maps and schedules to MACAA (1025 Park St, Park St and Davis Rd).
