PROGRAMME PROPOSAL FORM FOR YEAR IN INDUSTRY VARIANTS OF EXISTING UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Notes: 1. This form should be used for proposals for undergraduate programmes incorporating a year ‘In Industry’ which have received approval to go forward from the Programme Development Committee.

2.  Programme approval procedures are as set out in the Code of Practice on Programme Development and Approval, circulated annually to Heads of Department and available on the Academic & Research Services website.

3.  All queries relating to the completion of the form should be submitted to the Programme Approval Panel Secretary.

SECTION B: PROGRAMME SPECIFICATION AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

A programme specification should be prepared in line with the requirements of the Learning and Teaching Strategy and should be attached. The learning outcomes for the programme should address outcomes expected from the ‘year in industry’.

Advice may be sought from the Chair or Secretary of the relevant College Academic Committee or from the Panel Secretary. A template programme specification form and guidance notes are available at: http://www.le.ac.uk/teaching/programme/

SECTION C: PROPOSED REGULATIONS ENTRY

Please specify the proposed regulations entry for the ‘year in industry’.

SECTION D: ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Specify any standard of work that the student is required to achieve to be eligible to be considered for spending a year on an industrial placement.

Specify any additional requirements that may be required for the ‘in industry’ placement (e.g. is knowledge of a foreign language required).

SECTION E: SCHEME OF ASSESSMENT AND PROGRESSION

The contribution of the placement within the overall scheme of assessment should be set out, as should details of how the placement will be assessed.

Mechanisms for retrieval of failure both immediately before and following the period away from the University should be set out.

SECTION F: STUDENT PLACEMENTS

Provide details of departmental arrangements for the administration of the student’s year ‘in industry’ (eg. how the placement will be arranged, how the department will keep in contact with the student whilst away). Details of support to be given to students before and during the placement should be provided. The panel will utilise the University’s Code of Practice on Student Placements to assess proposals incorporating a year out (see http://www.le.ac.uk/academic/quality/Codes/), and proposers should ensure that they are familiar with this document and have learned from best practice outside of the department.
