Objective(s):

TSW identify the use of the music, will move to the beat of the music, and will play along with melodic phrases of their spring songs while discussing the role of a good performer.

Suggested Time Frame: 45 minutes

Procedures:

  1. TSW identify the words that at the beginning of the phrases as some of the 5 senses (Smell the flowers, See the plants, Hear the marching, Feel the sunshine) and which sense is left out of the song“Spring” from Broadway Junior’s Frog and Toad (Green Spotlight on Music 13:8).
  2. TSW review the movements as they sing along with the vocal and instrumental versions of the song.
  3. TSW identify characters that you find in a hive (Bee).
  4. TSW identify the rhyming words at the end of each musical phrase as bees/sees and hive/five before singing the song Here is the Beehive (Lt Blue Spotlight on Music T258 CD 14:26).
  5. TSW where worms are found first (in the ground) and then what they sing next that rhymes (all around) before singing along with the vocal and instrumental versions of“Worms” (Lt. Blue Spotlight on Music T286 CD 15:53).
  6. TSW review the movements before singing along with the vocal and instrumental versions of“Ladybug’s Picnic” (Green Spotlight on Musicpg 290 CD 13:32).
  7. TSW identify the melodic direction of the 1st four measures as going down and the next time they sing the numbers as going up each time.
  8. TSW speak the words without singing before singing along with the vocal and instrumental versions of “Butterfly, Flutterby” (Green Spotlight on Music pf. 333 CD 15:33).
  9. TSW recall when to hold up the numbers and when not to before singing along with the vocal version of“Five Green and Speckled Frogs” (CJ’s Fundamentals CD)

Assessment:

TTW observe the student’s ability to copy the movements appropriately when singing the songs

TTW observe the student’s ability to identify words that rhyme at the end of musical phrases.

TTW observe the student’s ability to sing and move to show understanding of the melodic direction heard in the songs they will use in the performance, Spring Has Sprung.
