All sessions are scheduled on Friday afternoons. An optional lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. Reservations for lunch may be required. The program will start at 1:00 p.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m.

August 28Orientation to the Teaching and Learning Program

Alkek 105/106This orientation session will provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the organizational structure of the University, students at the University, other new tenure-track faculty, and the Program for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

September 25Remembering, Discovery, & Volition: Tomás Rivera

LBJ Student Center Mexican American Children’s Book Award

In conjunction with Texas State’s Common Experience, this program will focus on encouraging multiculturalism and diversity in the classroom.

October 30Establishing and Maintaining the “Write” Habit

Alkek 105/106The presenter will share instructional strategies for helping to establish a regular and productive, stress-free writing habit. This interactive session is designed to inspire, motivate, and provide techniques that can be applied immediately to one’s academic writing life.

November 20Faculty Portfolios

Alkek 105/106This session will provide an overview of the tenure and promotion review process. A panel of tenured faculty will focus on the bigger picture of tenure and promotion and the portfolio assessment at Texas State University. Discussion will focus on what to include in the Texas State Vita, how to organize supporting materials, and how the documents will be reviewed. Examples of vitae and supporting documentation will be shared

January 29Scholarly Agenda Development

Alkek 105/106Representatives from the Research and Federal Relations Office and a panel of Associate Deans for Research and Scholarly Activity will promote the development of a scholarly agenda with practical strategies for establishing a scholarly methodology, investigating existing literature, and funding projects.

February 26Enhancing Teaching through Instructional Technologies

Alkek 105/106Representatives from Instructional Technology Support will illustrate how technology can enhance the quality of instruction and provide solutions to common teaching problems.

April 1Best Practices in Teaching and Learning

Alkek 105/106Program participants will share examples of teaching methods and practices that have worked particularly well for them during the year. Through this exchange, participants will gather a variety of techniques that can be incorporated into their own classes.

April 29Finale

Alkek 105/106The Provost and Associate Provost will provide encouragement for continued success at Texas State University and will address participants’ questions and concerns. The program will include a wrap up and an assessment of theProgram for Excellence in Teaching andLearning.
