C. The Students

A total of 36 students are admitted annually in the fall semester. Nursing students complete a two-year curriculum of 72 credits, culminating in an Associate of Science degree in Nursing. Completion of a Florida Board of Nursing approved program, such as the FKCC Nursing program, is required to be eligible for the RN licensure exam.

The nursing student body represents a diverse student population, mirroring the College and the County in some instances and very different in other instances. Ages span from 19 years of age to 55 with the average age of 30. The 25 to 34 year old age group comprises the largest percentile. Yet, there has been an increase in the students 45+ over the last three academic years. This reflects the median age for Monroe County of 42.6 according to the FKCC 2003 FACT Book. The following table illustrates statistics from the College’s Banner system on ages of nursing students from 2001 to 2004.
