Program and Development Internship

Summer 2017

Organization Background:Essential Partners has worked for more than 25 years to facilitate conversations and equip people using our approach to dialogue. We bring a method that is applicable and adaptable in a wide variety of contexts. Our method, Reflective Structured Dialogue (RSD), relies on preparation, structure, questions, facilitation, and reflection to enable people to harness their capacity to have the conversations they need to have. We offer training, facilitation, and consultation -- all aimed to equip communities to have the conversations about what is most essential to be able to move forward and create new ways of being together.

Program Overview: This position will support a range strategic and implementation activities related to furthering the mission of Essential Partners programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Support of dialogue in higher education initiative, including preparing for our annual summer gathering and supporting work done for a two-year grant in higher education. Support could include (but is not limited to) compiling research, editing, and note taking.
  • Support for monitoring and evaluation work, including entering data, basic qualitative and quantitative coding, and holding phone interviews.
  • Research and administrative support in coordination with programming.
  • Provide consultation to support ongoing efforts to build dialogues on college and university campuses.

This internship may also require some administrative, development, and/or program team support as needed.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or degree in progress
  • Solid research and analysis skills, including data entry, coding, and interviewing
  • Strong writing skills with ability to compile and organize information in a concise, logical manner
  • Professional communication skills

Compensation:

The internship is unpaid but provides insight in to programming operations for a small nonprofit. Also provides insight in to the work of organizations and practitioners addressing conflict and recovery from conflict, and provides opportunities for networking with

practitioners and organizations in the dialogue, deliberation, and conflict resolution world, and a chance to work closely with a group of professionals who have many years experience addressing conflict in organizational, community, and international contexts. The expectation is for high caliber work, reliability, and professionalism. In turn, you will be treated like a colleague and given opportunities to train or accept new responsibilities as able.

Many universities and cities also provide grants to students applying for internships in the non-profit industry. We would encourage students to apply for outside funding and will provide any necessary documentation to confirm employment.

Expected hours/week:

15-35 (with flexibility) from May through August 2017
