6. BRIEF RESUME OF THE INTENDED WORK

6.1 NEED FOR THE STUDY

Malla Garbha Pottali is a classical Pottali Rasayana containing Shuddha Malla Bhasma, Shuddha Parada, Shuddha Gandhaka Choorna and Suvarna Tanutantu Khanda.1

As it is claimed to be Pottali Rasayanas are more potent and used in emergency conditions, also it has most promising clinical indications than any other Rasa preparations. In this present era of clinical research and practice, using of Pottali Rasayanas becoming gradually less and its availability also least in the market.

The research question is whether it is possible to manufacture the Malla Garbha Pottali as per the classical reference or not with a positive hypothesis the present pharmaceutical study is designed.

The current trend in applied instrumental medical research encourages good medical practice, clinical and research based drug analysis. The main aim of analytical study is to find out working standards for the formulations and safe use of therapeutics.2 Therefore the basic and effective analytical methods to assess the properties of procedures and prepared products. SoMalla Garbha Pottali is also considered and hence the present study entitled

“PHARMACEUTICO-ANALYTICAL STUDY OF MALLA GARBHA POTTALI”is undertaken.

6.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:

  • Shodhana of Malla.
  • To prepare Malla Bhasma.
  • Extraction of Parada from Hingula.
  • Shodhana of Gandhaka.
  • Shodhana of Suvarna.
  • Preparation of Malla Garbha Pottali.
  • To carryout Analytical study ofMalla Garbha Pottali.

7. MATERIALS AND METHODS:

7.1Source of data:

  • Genuine raw materials will be collected from authentic source. These will be screened for Grahya lakshanas.Necessary processing of raw materials and preparation of Malla Garbha Pottali will be done in pharmacy section of P.G.Department of Rasashastra, in TaranathGovt.AyurvedicMedicalCollege, Bellary.Analytical studies for Kajjali of Malla Garbha Pottali and preparedMalla Garbha Pottali will be done and data will be procured with the assistance of accredited laboratories.

7.2METHODS OF COLLECTION OF DATA:

.

1) Literary study:

  • Data from relevant classical texts will be collected for Malla Garbha Pottali.

2) Pharmaceutical study:

  • Shodhana of Malla will be carried out in Godugdha by subjecting it to Swedana in Dolayantra for one Yama.3
  • Preparation of Malla Bhasma.4
  • Extraction Parada from Hingula by subjecting it to Urdhvapatana method.5
  • Gandhaka Shodhana will be carried out in Godugdha by subjecting it to Kurma Puta by Bhoodhara Yantra method.6
  • Shodhana of Suvarna will be carried out in Kanchanara swarasa by Nirvapa method.7
  • Preparation of Mallagarbha Pottali 1will be done.as follows,

Kajjali is prepared in khalwa yantra by adding ShuddhaParada,Suvarna,Gandhaka and Malla Bhasma,then subjected toBhavana in Kumari Swarasa for a day.Then it is mouldedin to Shikhararambha shape and later dried. Pottali is kept in center of four folded silk cloth,each layer is filled with Gandhaka uniformly and then wrapped and tied to iron rod and suspended in earthen pot which contains molten Sulphurand mandagni is given.When Paka lakshana mentioned forMalla Garbha Pottali attains then it is removed dried and collected.
