Dr. Neelima Milind Deshpande

Objectives

To teach with passion and impart knowledge in chosen fields. To develop the students as sound Microbiologists, to encourage them to participate in research work right from the undergraduate level and to motivate them to develop all rounded personality with necessary soft skills and ethical values.

Microbes offer a wealth of potentialities. My objective is to conduct research and contribute in exploration of novel compounds from microbes, for the benefit of mankind.

Present position:

Working as an Associate Professor at Microbiology Department, Abasaheb Garware College, Pune 411004.

Academic Qualifications: Doctorate in Microbiology

Ph.D. from University of Pune in 2002 with the thesis titled “Biodegradation of Dimethoate- a carbamate group of organophosphorus insecticide”. Research work for the thesis was carried out at Microbiology Department, Agharkar Research Institute, Pune, under the guidance of Dr. P. P. Kanekar.

Research Interests:

Actinomycetes as a source of secondary metabolites like Antimicrobial agents, antitumor compounds, antitumor enzymes, antioxidants and more.

Extremophiles and their enzymes, Biodiversity studies using recent molecular tools, Studies on Biodegradation of Xenobiotic compounds.
