CODE OF CONDUCT

PLAYER’S CODE OF CONDUCT

  1. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of fellow players, coaches, officials and spectators
  2. Learn the rules of the game and play fairly by them at all times
  3. Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealing with others
  4. Be professional in, and accept responsibility for your actions
  5. Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in any sport and action may be taken by the team captain / club committee.

  1. Work hard for your team at all times. Your performance will benefit and so will your team.
  2. Acknowledge good play whether it is by your team or your opposition.
  3. Treat all players both on and off the court, as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with or take unfair advantage of another player.
  4. Co-operate with your coach, captain, team mates, opponents and officials at all times.
  5. Be a positive role model
  6. Conduct yourself in a professional manner relating to language, temper and punctuality.
  7. Maintain high personal behaviour standards at all times.

COACHES / TEAM MANAGERS CODE OF CONDUCT

  1. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every human being.
  2. Ensure the athlete’s time spent with you is a positive experience.
  3. Treat each athlete as an individual.
  4. Be fair, considerate and honest with athletes.
  5. Be professional in and accept responsibility for your actions.
  6. Make a commitment to providing a quality service to your athletes
  7. Operate within the rules and spirit of your sport.
  8. Any physical contact with the athletes should be appropriate to the situation, necessary for the athlete’s skill development.
  9. Refrain from any form of personal abuse towards your athletes; this includes verbal, physical and emotional abuse.
  10. Refrain from any form of sexual harassment towards your athletes.
  11. Provide a safe environment for training and competition.
  12. Show concern and caution towards sick and injured athletes.
  13. Be a positive role model for your sport and athletes.

PARENTS AND SUPPORTERS CODE OF CONDUCT

  1. Treating your child the same irrespective of them winning or losing.
  2. Remembering that your child plays tennis for their enjoyment not yours.
  3. Applaud good performance and focus on the efforts by your team AND the opponents rather than the overall outcome of the event. Congratulate both teams regardless of the match’s outcome.
  4. The result of each match should be accepted. An honest effort is as important as victory.
  5. Respect the official’s/Team Managers decision. If you disagree with an official /Team Manager, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than question the official’s/Team Manager’s judgment and honesty in public. Remember most officials /Team Manages give their time and effort for the participant’s involvement.
  6. Condemn the use of violence in any form-be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players.
  7. Show respect for your team’s opponents – without them there would not be a game.
  8. Encourage players to play according to the rules and the official’s decisions.
  9. Demonstrate appropriate social behavior by not using foul language, harassing players, intimidation/harassment of coaches or officials.

BREACH OF CONDUCT

Breaches that are considered to be unacceptable will be dealt with by Team Captains, Junior Co-ordinators and the committee members as deemed appropriate – i.e. warning, suspension of current games, suspension from future matches depending of the severity of the breach.

So what do you do???

Players are encouraged to first approach their Captain or Team Manager, as most problems can be resolved quickly and easily through communication between player and coach.

If this fails to produce a satisfactory resolution, players should then approach the president.

If still not satisfied, you may then approach the committee in writing, send your letter to:
