Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS)
2012-2013 Teacher Appraisal Calendar
State regulations require the District to establish a time frame for the teacher appraisal period each school year. The appraisal period begins August 21, 2012 and ends June 6, 2013 (based on a 187 day teaching contract). Specific timelines are outlined below.
PDAS Orientation
August 28 / Campus “Renewal Orientation” for all teachers who have previously received PDAS training
PDAS on-line / Teachers new to the PDAS instrument will receive formal on-line training through Responsive Learning and receive the campus “Renewal Orientation”.
Teacher Self Report Period
September 19 / Teacher Self Report I due for those receiving orientationon or beforeAugust 28
(All others count 15 workdays after orientation date)
September 19 / VERIFY THAT ALL TSR’s are in your office by this date
PDAS Non-Evaluative Year Agreement due in your office (TSR not required for
non-evaluative teachers)
January 18 – April 18 / Teacher Self Report II and III are due to appraiser two weeks prior to
the summative conference. The date range for summative conferences is
February 4 -May3. A campus may set a date to collect all TSR’s within this window. These reports are not required for teachers on optional cycle.
Formal Observation Period
September 21 / Formal Observations may begin for those receiving orientation on August 28
(or count 15 workdays after orientation date)
By April 19 / At least two walkthroughsper semester for ALL teachers/Last day to conduct observations (Walkthroughs may continue until the last day of instruction)
Summative Conference Period
February 4 / Summative conferences may begin
April 5 / Summative Appraisals for probationary and marginal teachers should be completed (can be extended for late hires)
April 25 / Last available date for Summative Annual Appraisal Report to be given
to teacher for review
May 3 / Summative Conferences end
Other important information:
  1. Teacher Self Report I is due within first three weeks from the day of completion of PDAS orientation or PDAS renewal. For teachers who do not require orientation or renewal the report is due within the first three week of instruction.
  2. Written summary of the observation shall be given to the teacher within 10 working days after formal observation.
  3. Any documentation that will influence the summative annual appraisal report must be shared with the teacher in writing within 10 working days of knowledge of the occurrence.
  4. Teacher Self-Report II and III are due to appraiser two weeks before Summative Conference.
  5. The summative annual appraisal report shall be shared with the teacher no later than 15 working days before the last day of instruction for students. The appraisal report must be shared 5 days prior to the summative conference.

Non-Renewal Timelines
January 8 through January 25 / Meet with HR about POSSIBLE teacher contract non-renewals and terminations/Develop and implement TINA plan for teachers
March 18 / Cover Letter and Documentation requestingnon-renewals due to HR (HARD DEADLINE)
Week of March 18 / Discussion with legal Counsel for possible adverse contract action.
March 28 / Summative Appraisals for probationary and marginal teachers that are being recommended for non-renewal/TINA completion date
April 16 / Board Meeting for renewal / non-renewal
Immediately following April Board Meeting / State law requires that the District provide written notice of the Board’s decision to terminate a probationary contract at its end or to propose the non-renewal of a term contract by the 10th day before the last day of instruction required in the contract. This notice must be received by the educator prior to the 10th day.

CRITICAL OBSERVATION DATES

State regulation prohibits observations from being scheduled on the day before and the day after a school holiday, days scheduled for end of semester or end of year examinations, or days scheduled for state mandated assessments or other standardized tests. Consult the District Assessment Calendar for dates that may not be listed on this calendar or for updates that may occur. The following list of dates reflects our state and local requirements.
