Production Assistant - Job Description

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA), producer of ARTSCAPE, is seeking Production Assistants to help behind the scenes from July 17-21, 2008.

Job Description and Schedule

This job entails doing all of the job duties that our event production team would normally perform during a large event. The following is a partial list of the job duties that may be required:

  • Hanging signs during set up
  • Placing tables and chairs
  • Placing plants and décor
  • Delivering ice, skids of water/soda, programs, t-shirts, posters, etc. to the backstage areas and sales booths
  • Organizing the event storage spaces
  • Assisting with exhibitor load in and breakdown
  • Opening and closing tents and staging at the beginning and end of each day
  • Assisting with any special exhibitor needs
  • Alerting the BOPA staff to any problems before, during, and after ARTSCAPE
  • Running general errands
  • Filling in for volunteer no-shows
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by Festival Management

The schedule that we will need you to work is as follows:

  • Thursday, July 17 from 10am to 8pm (3 PAs needed to help with signage installation)
  • Thursday, July 17 from 10amto 8pm (5PAs needed)
  • Friday, July 18 from 8am to 11pm (6PAs needed including dedicated office asst.)
  • Saturday, July 19 from 9am to 11pm (6PAs needed including dedicated office asst.)
  • Sunday, July 20 from 9am to 12amor clear (6 PAs needed including dedicated office asst. from 9am to 2 pm)
  • Monday, July 21 from 10am to noon (3 PAs needed)

  • You will be paid ten dollars ($10.00) an hour as an independent contractor. (This means that you will be issued an IRS 1099 form at the end of the year, you are responsible for any taxes, and you are not eligible for any benefits.) You will receive free parking and meals while working at Artscape and (2) Artscape t-shirts.

Job Qualifications

You must:

  • Be over the age of eighteen with a valid driver’s license on file with the State of Maryland
  • Able to follow directions and “think on your feet”
  • Able to lift and carry approximately fifty (50) pounds
  • Able to workin possibly extreme heat or in wet weather
  • Able to responsibly drive a gator cart through the festival grounds for deliveries
  • Be high energy!
  • Have a desire to see the "backstage" activity and learn how a major public event is operated
  • Provide job references
  • Preferred candidates will work all shifts throughout the ARTSCAPEfestival and be able to attend orientation/training that will be held several weeks prior to the festival (date: TBD).
