A. General Information

1. President’s Call to Order-Susan Hong Bang

Introduction of the new board and welcome to PRMS.

2. Secretary’s - Report Paula Bonvenuto

Motion to approve minutes from September 8th. 2106, meeting approved by Tammy Vaculaand seconded bySusan Martinez.

B. Recognition of Members and Visitors

Maura Pazan, Lead School Psychologist

  • See attached handout
  • Resiliency means the ability to bounce back, uses the analogy of a trampoline.
  • Teach our kids to copy with problems, deal with emotions are the “springs of the trampoline”.
  • The outer circle are external influences, like family, friends, athletics – these are the “net of the trampoline.”
  • Students have many different support systems within the school. Two counselors at PRMS and a social worker, Carolyn Weishance. They provide services for reading, math and learning as well as other issues or at risk behaviors.
  • Several different support teams available. MTSS for monitors students’ progress and achievement such as Keystone testing.
  • SAP teams that monitor at risk students
  • PST team involves our social worker who works with students with the most intense needs, for example students dealing with mental health issues.
  • The suicide awareness stoplight analogy uses a traffic light. The green light indicates that the student is doing fine.
  • Yellow means that there are some signs the student may need help. Such as change in grades or change in sleep patterns. Because the student need, help does not mean they are suicidal. There are different layers of support depending on the situation.
  • Red indicates that the student needs immediate help. Examples are attempted suicide, lack of social support, maltreatment
  • Other areas of assistance are Resolve crisis network. This is an outside organization that can come to the home or school.
  • Staff members are trained to identify student who might be in need of help. Staff members receive a 3-hour training as well as coaches, lunch staff and bus drivers.
  • Looking to add webinars, website and evening meetings to reach all student/parents.
  • Bookmarks are available for student at both the PRHS and PRMS with contact names and numbers. See attached
  • Students are encouraged to take photographs of the bookmark to keep on their phone. Students can to call or come to guidance if they or one of their friend is experiencing issues. Encourage students to come forward if it means they could help a friend.

C. PSA Business-Board Member Updates and Special Committee Reports

Vice Presidents’ Report –Stacey Silipo Co-VPs

  • Chipotle day coming up October 18th at Wexford location from 4-8 pm.

Treasurer report, Maritza Armstrong

  • Budget was provided. See attached handout.
  • 8th grade t-shirts are ordered and will be delivered in the next 2 weeks. Received signatures from all students except for one.
