LocationMitcham, SW London (4 minutes from Mitcham tram stop).Office relocation anticipated late 2013/early2014 to Southwark, Vauxhall or Waterloo area, close to transport links.

Prisoners Education Trust is a small friendly charity with 14 staff based in Mitcham, SW London. We work to extend educational opportunities for people in prison, through a grants programme and other projects. We believe that education has the capacity to change people and gives prisoners a second chance.

Purpose of the post

This post provides administrative support for PET’s fundraising activities and communications.

Duties and tasks

Fundraising tasks

  • Correspondence with donors and dealing with telephone queries. Assisting with mailings (postal and electronic) as necessary.
  • Researching potential donors (in liaison with the Head of Fundraising).
  • Maintaining and updating information on the CRM. Supporting non-fundraising staff in their use of the CRM.
  • Administration of events including: managing attendee lists; liaison with venues and printers; record keeping; correspondence; attendance as required.
  • Assistance with gathering evidence to support fundraising efforts including: researching potential case studies, drafting and writing up letters to use for case studies and identifying / writing up quotes.
  • Supporting the Trusts & Foundations Fundraising Manager (TFM) in preparing funding applications.
  • Where appropriate support the TFM in keeping accurate and up to date files of funders – both paper and electronic.
  • Other general tasks as required.

Communications tasks

  • Support the implementation of a PET communications strategy.
  • Support the Media and Public Affairs Manager in the development and delivery of a media strategy.
  • Assist with the development the PET website and online knowledge base.
  • Ensure website is monitored regularly, kept up to date and links to all relevant social media sites/activites.
  • Support the Head of Fundraising in the development of fundraising communication materials, including but not limited to newsletters and the annual review.
  • Design and create fundraising materials as required.
  • Provide FR content for the Learning Matters e-news as required.
  • Create and manage a PET image library.
  • Other general tasks as required.

Person specification

Essential

  • Experience of providing administrative support in a fundraising and/or communications capacity.
  • Good organisational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to draft correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to different audiences.
  • Strong IT skills, including competence in using MS Office, and data entry skills.
  • An interest in working with prisoners or disadvantaged people.
  • Flexible, proactive and able to work cooperatively as part of a small team.

Desirable

  • Knowledge / experience of charities.
  • Knowledge or experience of the criminal justice system or of education.
  • Experience of drafting and developing print materials and/or maintaining and updating websites.
  • Experience of utilising social media in a fundraising/communications context.

Outline terms and conditions of employment

  1. This is a permanent contract.
  2. Probationary period:6 months.
  3. Holidays: 25 days a year plus statutorybank holidays.
  4. A 5% contribution towards a stakeholder pension scheme is offered on successful completion of the probationary period (which is then backdated).
