Principles of Manufacturing

Prerequisites: A. Grades: 9-10 Credit: One (state)

Do you want to be a part of one of the fastest growing fields in the Gulf Coast area? The study of manufacturing technology allows students to reinforce, apply and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of interesting and relevant activities, problems, and settings in a manufacturing setting. Students gain knowledge and skills in the application, design, production, and assessment of products, services, and systems and how those knowledge and skills are applied to manufacturing. Career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations will be studied in greater depth.

Welding

Prerequisites: A. Grades: 10-11 Credit: Two (state)

Rapid advances in technology have created new career opportunities and demands in many industries. This class provides the knowledge, skills, and technologies required for employment in metal technology systems. This course supports the integration of academic and technical knowledge and skills. Students reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills to a variety of settings and problems. Career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations will be studied in greater depth.

Advanced Welding

Prerequisites: A. Grades: 11-12 B. Successful completion of WeldingCredit: Two (state)

Students will develop advanced welding concepts and skills as they relate to personal and career development. Upon successful completion students will be qualified as a professional welder and be ready to enter into industry based work to become certified.

Teacher approval is required prior to enrollment in this course.

Practicum in Manufacturing

Prerequisite: Advanced WeldingCredit: 3 (state)

This practicum is designed to give students supervised practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience.

Career Preparation

Prerequisites: A. Grade: 12Credit: Three (state)

B. Successful completion of a coherent sequence of courses within the Career & Technical Education offerings.

Want to begin gaining work experience in the cluster area you have been studying? This capstone course will allow students from all Career and Technical Education Clusters who have completed a coherent sequence of courses to begin gaining real world experience in a cooperative education learning environment. The course is designed to give students supervised practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Students will be required to have the skills necessary to secure a job in an approved training station; work a minimum of 15 hours per week; and provide their own reliable transportation. Teacher approval is required prior to enrollment in this course.
