Funeral Luncheon Policy
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
Funeral luncheons give the family of the one who has died an opportunity to take time to eat and spend time with family and friends that may have been lost during the planning of the funeral and the greeting of people at the viewings. It serves as an opportunity for the church to assist the family with the transition from the time of the funeral to a bit of normalcy of daily life. This policy is set to make the planning of the funeral luncheon as easy as possible for the family of the one who has died.
1. General information
a. The Funeral Luncheon Committee is only able to do luncheons at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. If the family would like to use a different location for their funeral luncheon, the family must make other arrangements for the preparation and serving of the luncheon.
b. Luncheons are held in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The most people we can serve comfortably in the Fellowship Hall is 120 people.
2. Members of the Congregation
a. Funeral Luncheons will be offered to members of the congregation. The menus used by the Committee will be made available to the family. The family will be responsible for choosing the entrees from these menus and will be ordered for the family from a local caterer of the Committee’s choice. Donations from members of the congregation for side dishes and beverages (as determined by the committee) will be taken as they are needed. The donations of cakes from the congregation for dessert will be part of each luncheon. If the family does not wish to order from the Committee’s caterer, the family will be responsible for all of the ordering and delivery of all the food for the luncheon. A member of the Funeral Luncheon Committee must be present when an outside vendor is using the facilities to cater a funeral luncheon to ensure that the Church’s kitchen equipment is used properly and to answer questions of the caterer.
b. The family will be solely responsible for the payment of the bill to the caterer. The family’s name and contact information, not that of the church, will appear on the bill from the caterer. Payment for the caterer is expected on the day of the funeral luncheon. This payment may be made in the form of a check made out to the caterer and given to the Funeral Luncheon Committee or you may contact the caterer directly if you would like to pay by credit card.
c. Paper products will be supplied by the congregation at no charge.
d. The use of the Fellowship Hall is free. (see Building Use Policy Section V.E.1)
e. A donation to the Funeral Luncheon Fund of the congregation is suggested to help offset the cost of future funeral luncheons.
3. Non-Members of the Congregation
a. Non-members (including the spouse and children of members who are not members of the congregation) will have the opportunity to have a funeral luncheon at the church. All food items must be ordered and delivered to the church from a restaurant or catering service of family’s choice at the family’s cost. Beverages will be supplied by the family. The family must make these arrangements with the restaurant or catering company and pay them directly. The church will provide people to work to set up the luncheon and put food out, if desired OR a catering company with their employees serving the meal may be used for an additional fee, listed below. A member of the Funeral Luncheon Committee must be present when an outside vendor is using the facilities to cater a funeral luncheon to ensure that the Church’s kitchen equipment is used properly and to answer questions of the caterer.
b. Paper products will be supplied by the church for a fee of $30.00 to cover the cost of replacement.
c. There is a $50.00 fee for the use of the building during a funeral (See Building Use Policy Section V.E.2.). This includes the use of the Fellowship Hall. This fee is waived for immediate family members (Spouse and Children) of members of the congregation (See Building Use Policy Section V.E.1). If a catering company is used to prepare and/or serve the meal from the kitchen, there is an additional fee of $50.00 (See Building Use Policy V.C.2.c.).
d. A donation to the Funeral Luncheon Fund of the congregation is suggested to help offset the cost of future funeral luncheons.
