Science / Magical Microscopes
We are looking for twenty four aspiring young scientists that want to explore the magical realm of cells. In this biology session you will get the opportunity to look at the cells inside YOUR OWN mouth and see what makes you, you. Get ready to go on a microscopic adventure at Harris Academy Falconwood.

Come and explore our world and all of the animals that live here. I need some enthusiastic and creative volunteers to help me answer some questions:
How do camels survive in the desert?
How do sharks survive in the sea?
How does a lion survive on the plains of Africa?

History / Take a Step Back Into History!!
Are you ready to take a step back in time? We are looking for curious and engaged historians to analyse the past! In this session, you will have the opportunity to explore the First World War. Get ready for a great adventure at Harris Academy Falconwood.

Spanish / Trip to Spain:
Would you like to travel around Spain in just one hour? Explore the hidden treasures and dark corners of the Iberian country while visiting your favourite football stadiums and Spain’s most famous cities!

ICT / Movie making
Students will explore the world of filming and editing by completing movie making from the start of the process [story boarding] to showing their finished piece to their peers. As they work through this process they will be mentored and given help them produce a piece of work of a high standard.

Music / An Introduction to Garageband
In this session students will be introduced to Garageband. They will be taught basic skills to be able to use the program and then they will be able to create their own music. The best three students will have their work burned to CD for them to take home.

Friday 15th January
English / Fairy-tale Fancy
Delve into a world filled with courageous knights and powerful princesses, where animals whisper secrets of the forest and castles are larger than countries. Get ready to don your battle armour for a magical experience of learning at Harris Academy Falconwood.

Tuesday 19th January
PE / Rock climbing
Conquer the climb! Conquer the climb is how it sounds, come and join us for an hour session where you will learn how to safely prepare for the climb and then be able to tackle the climbing wall deciding on different routes which range in difficultly!! You can test your ability to glide up the wall and coach others as they attempt their routes. You will then abseil back down embracing the challenge you have just completed.
*Please come in PE kit and trainers.

Spanish / Spanish Dinner
Come grab dinner in La Piedra market (Vigo, Spain)! Do you fancy some spicy octopus? What about some bull tail? Rabbit, maybe? Discover Spanish cuisine whilst learning to order your favourite dishes!

Religion and Philosophy / Meditation
What is happiness? Students to explore the concept of happiness through games and creative tasks. The session will end with a meditation session to help students learn how to melt their blues away. It is recommended for students to be in comfortable clothing.

Science / Colourful Chemicals
We are looking for twenty four aspiring young scientists that want to use a Bunsen burner.In this chemistry session you will use a Bunsen burner to identify unknown chemicals and set your hands on fire! Get ready to go on a hot and colourful adventure at Harris Academy Falconwood.

Geography / Natural Disasters: Help me think about how we can save lives?
There are natural disasters happening across the world and I don’t know what we can do. I need to bring a team together to help decide how we can save people in case these events happen again. Bring your clever brains because I can’t think of solutions on my own!!

Do you feel you have a skill for problem solving? Do you love maths problems? Think you could beat other schools in the area? Well here is your chance. The Harris Falconwood Maths Challenge invites your school to enter a team of four year 6 students to compete to be crowned Maths Challenge Champions 2016.

Design and Technology / Personalised Keyring/Medallion
Explore the world of Design & Technology and get your first taste of using tools and machinery in a workshop. Attend this session to work with wood and plastic to make your own personalised keyring or to make one as a gift for a friend.

Dive into the world of mathemagic! “Wait! What’s mathamagic?” I hear you say. Well attend this program and you will be given the opportunity to find out. This is not simply another magic show. This is a chance for you to learn how to do some of these tricks for yourself and even create your own trick! Amaze your classmates and family with your newly acquired skills and let them experience the mathemagic too.

Design and Technology / Shortbread Biscuits
Are you a future chef in the making? Attend this Food Technology session to experience a cooking lesson from a professional chef. Produce your own tasty shortbread biscuits and take away a recipe so that you can practice at home!

Religion and Philosophy / Food Laws
Developing an understanding of why different religions and cultures have dietary laws. Students explore what they think they can or cannot eat. They share reasons. They are given facts to broaden their minds about what people around the world do or don’t eat. They session ends with students in different groups preparing menus for people with specific dietary restrictions.

English / Goosebumps in the night
Have you ever been scared to look under your bed? Have you ever wanted to know what that ticking noise was coming from your wardrobe? Explore the art of horror story telling this term and visit Harris Academy Falconwood. In this session we will investigate the supernatural in fiction and delve into a world full of mystery and fear, this is not for the faint-hearted…

The students will explore everyday situations and sounds that are created e.g. on the bus, cafe, school etc. They will work in small groups to create a short performance.

Religion and Philosophy / Animal vs Human rights
What makes us human? Why are we different from animals? Does being human give us special rights over animals? We will look at ethical issues surrounding animal cruelty, vegetarianism and animal testing (it will be a gentle introduction to the topic). At the end of the session, students will come up with a campaign either in favour of animal rights or in favour of humans being superior.

What makes a perfect city? Is it the buildings? Maybe it’s the sort of people that live there? Is London an amazing city? These are the questions I hope you will be thinking about in my lesson. We will need to look at cities around the world and the YOU will decide in teams which city you would like to live in and why.

PE / The Mini-Olympics
Come and join us at Harris Academy Falconwood to take part in the Mini-Olympics! You will be taking part in teams to complete the athletic challenges to the best of your ability, striving to be the best you can be! During the Mini-Olympics you will be developing your athletics skills and learning to take part in sport in the Olympic spirit.
