Reports To: Vice President of Instruction and Director

Job Focus: Supports the College Mission and serves students, employers and the college community by preparing and providing relevant technical instruction. Under general supervision, prepares relevant curriculum for competency based instruction in an open-entry/open-exit or lectured environment for UBTech’s carpentry program. The Instructor maintains a positive and productive learning environment by working collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and college partners. Success of an instructor includes the abilities to: collaborate, simplify, communicate, advocate, celebrate success, build trust, empower others, and improve the college community and its programs.

Minimum Qualifications

·  3 years of construction experience (preferred)

·  General Contractor’s License (preferred)

·  Business communication

·  Teaching experience

Essential Duties and Performance Standards:

1.  Encourage growth through industry connectivity

2.  Prepare relevant curriculum for competency based instruction in an open-entry/open-exit or lectured environment for UBTech’s carpentry program.

3.  Develop and maintain current program and course outlines, goals and objectives

4.  Align class curriculum with USBE curriculum and offer USBE skills tests as appropriate when teaching secondary students

5.  Advise students, evaluate, and record student progress in attaining their goals and objectives

6.  Maintain knowledge of current trends and development in the respective field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences and by reading professional literature in the related technical field

7.  Maintain program certifications and accreditation standards for program area

8.  Actively assists in the accreditation process for the College

9.  Assist with student recruitment, retention and job placement efforts

10.  Create, support, and maintain an active Advisory Committee and industry partnerships

11.  Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training area

12.  Meet with students, parents, sponsors, high school counselors and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students

13.  Foster a productive learning and training environment

14.  Encourage and exemplify professionalism and good work habits

15.  Build and maintain a healthy program with up-to-date curriculum and targeted enrollments

16.  Request and maintain supplies and equipment inventories

17.  Propose required budget and purchase requests; follow purchasing guidelines

18.  Prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports

19.  Display a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operate effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrate trustworthiness and responsible behavior

20.  Work cooperatively within the College community

21.  Performs other related duties as assigned

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of or be willing to learn and operate Student Information Software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Certificates & Licenses: Must hold related industry certifications needed to meet instructional requirements of the program. Must meet requirements of College accreditation body, and may be required to meet Utah State Board of Education (USBE) licensure requirements.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Must have open, positive communication skills with the ability to foster a productive learning environment. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, supervisors, partners, and the general public.

Other Skills and Abilities: Must have demonstrated critical thinking skills, and ability to research and recommend assessment strategies. Must have proven ability to lead; including the ability to act as an advocate for the College in all partnerships. Must have the ability to coordinate with academic and industry partners. Some instructor positions require the ability to work a flexible schedule and may require some evening hours.

Work Environment: Incumbent of the position performs in a typical classroom/office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, but do require frequent walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required for many tasks. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and critical thinking.
