20th MANGO MELA ARRIVES AT PINJORE

Pinjore, 2nd July 11: Sh. Chhatar Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Haryana inaugurated the 20th Mango Mela at Yadavindra Gardens, Pinjore in the Panchkula District today amidst much fanfare.

Sh. Dhanpat Singh, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Tourism, Haryana, Sh. Roshan Lal, Financial Commissioner & Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Haryana, Sh. S.N.Roy, Managing Director, Haryana Tourism, Sh. Mahender Kumar, Secretary to Governor, Haryana, Sh. Vivek Joshi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Sh. Satyavir Singh, Director Horticulture, Haryana, Sh. N.K.Singla, General Manager(Admn), Haryana Tourism and Senior Officers of District Administration, Panchkula received them. 20th Mango Mela at Pinjore Gardens will be declared closed on 3rd July in a glittering ceremony by Hon’ble Governor of Haryana Sh. Jagannath Pahadia in the late evening.

The 20th Mango Mela was jointly organised by Haryana Tourism, Department of Culture, Haryana and Horticulture Department Haryana. The main objective of the two day Mela was to encourage farmers to adopt the latest technology in order to increase their productivity and quality of their products, so that, they may get maximum returns of their produce from their limited holdings by tapping the domestic as well as international market. The Mango Mela also provided a forum to the mango growers for marketing their produce. It also provided a platform to the artisans and Self Help Groups to display and sell their handlooms and handicrafts products besides popularizing these ancient Mughal Gardens which are the National Heritage. The Mela is an annual event which celebrates the arrival of Mango- the `King of Fruits`. The Mela provided an excellent opportunity to the tourists to see and taste good quality of mangoes, besides fun and frolic.

There was lot of enthusiasm amongst the organizers, the participants and the Mango lovers who thronged these historical Mughals Gardens today. The Chief Guest was escorted to the Mela venue where 2592 entries of mouth-watering mangoes from all across the northern part of India were displayed. The highlight of the display section this year was the presence of total varieties of 225 Mangoes were displayed. The display also had range of 332 entries of Mango products such as Mango Chutney, Aam Ka Pana, Aam Papad, Mango Squash etc.

and the glitter was so fascinating that the visitors were thrilled to watch this Mega Event. The various kind of competitions such as Rangoli Competition, Face Painting Competition are organized for tiny tots. Tomorrow will witness the Painting Competition, Fancy Dress Competion, Mehndi, Mango Eating completion for the visitors.

The various street dance and cultural events like Haryanvi Dance, Punjabi Bhangra, Kachhi Ghori of Rajasthan, Puppet Show-Jaipur, Dhol Nagara-Hodel Banchari Been Sapera(Rajasthan), Long Man Bamboo Walker-Delhi and Bioscope-Delhi were organized to give comfort zone to all age groups and section of society.

Sh. Chhatar Singh stated to the waiting media that this mela marked the arrival of mango which is considered as the “king of fruits” in this part of the world. Apart from showcasing various varieties of mangoes and providing an opportunity to the visitors to see and taste a variety of mangoes, this event would be a grand affair featuring an assortment of cultural activities. He said that it would also help farmers of the region to share their experiences and exchange their knowledge during the mela. The mela also provides a common platform to the artisans and self-help groups to display and sell their products. He further stated that a national seminar is also being organized on mango cultivation on July 3 at Kisan Bhawan, Sector-14, Panchkula.

While speaking about developmental activities at Pinjore, Sh. Chhatar Singh said that Yadvindra Garden under, the dynamic leadership of Ch. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Hon`ble Chief Minister, Haryana, was being developed as a renowned heritage destination. Also, the nearby Bhima Devi Temple has been renovated as a world class ancient museum. Various renovation and conservation works in the garden are in progress.

Sh. Dhanpat Singh, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Tourism, Haryana stated while speaking to the press that sixfountain channels and four cross channels have been renovated or conserved with marble at their bottom and sides. Water proof lights, strip lights and fountains have been fixed in the water channels. The conservation of structure of Jal Mahal has been completed. New fountains and lights have been errected around Jal Mahal area. Water re-circulation system with filters has been installed for filtering the water running in the channels. The quality of water has improved after installation of the system. Ramps at various terraces have been constructed for making the gardens disabled friendly. Stone paths have been re-laid in the orchards. Concrete road has been provided along the outer periphery of the garden. Additional parking space in front of the gardens has been carved and ultra music system has also been introduced in the garden. Glitering lights would also be affixed in the near future. The construction of water treatment plant is also in progress, and it would treatwaste generated from the motel and the gardens.

The Chief Guest also witnessed stunning performance of Chanchal Bharti"", a renowned qawwal later in the day.

Chanchal Bharti Queen of Sufi Music and Qawwali is one of the foremost exponents of Sufi music and Qawwali. She performed Qawwali on many platforms in this part of the world and she is also acknowledged as one of the most promising Qawwal of recent times. She has the distinction to represent at various international platforms to popularize this kind of traditional singing.

Endowed with sacred and sufiana strains of lyrical expression, the qawwali is a popular genre of Indian vocal music, Chanchal Bharti" proudly pronounced.

The Department of Horticulture Haryana came into existence during the year 1991 and immediately laid special emphasis on Mango cultivation in Haryana. The area and production during 1990-91 was 3,553 hectare and 19,900 tones respectively, which has increased remarkably during 2008-09 to 9009 and 69,670 million tones respectively. This has been possible due to the adoption of package and practices demonstrated by the Horticulture Department.

Regarding the mango cultivation in India, it is grown in an area of 1.96 million hectares and the production is 11.61 million tones. Andhra is leading State of India where total production is estimated to be 3.41 million tones, Uttar Pradesh 2.59 million tones followed by Karnataka 1.11 million tones, Bihar 0.87 million tones, Tamil Nadu 0.73 million tones and Maharashtra 0.63 million tones. In Haryana, Mango occupies a prominent place & it is grown in 25% of total area under fruit cultivation. The estimated area under mango cultivation is 9009 hectares and production is 69,670 million tones. The maximum area under Mango is in Yamunanagar district 5274 ha., Ambala 1282 ha., Panchkula 921 ha, Karnal 633 ha., and Kurukshetra 425 ha.

In order to ensure good quality service of snacks and other food items to the visitors, the food stalls have been set up by the Institute of Hotel Management, Kurukshetra, Institute of Hotel Management, Panipat, Imperial Institute of Hotel Management, Manimajra, Rayat Bahra Institute of Hotel Management and Fort Ramgarh Institute of Hotel Management.

The results of the various competitions organized during the day were announced wherein 150 participants have participated in Face painting competition. 200 participants have participated in Rangoli competition.
