GOSPELYMPICS is the name of the gospel event that will take place at the Lighthouse theatre in Camberwell, Southeast London, England on August 25th, 2012 as the official marathon of prayers, praise, and thanksgiving for Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of Independence.

This event aims to bring and highlight the spiritual and religious nature of Jamaican’s to the Jamaica50 Golden Jubilee celebrations. Its aim is to reflect on Jamaica’s achievements and give thanks and praise to God, and to pray for improvements,advancement, and prosperity for Jamaica in the future.

Jamaica has always had a strong connection with God. It is no accident that the National Anthem first few lines are : ETERNAL FATHER BLESS OUR LAND , GUIDE US WITH THY MIGHTY HAND, KEEP US FREE FROM EVIL POWERS , BE OUR LIGHT THROUGH COUNTLESS HOURS.

Our anthem makes further requests to God: GIVE US WISDOM LEST WE PERISH… KNOWLEDGE SEND US HEAVENLY FATHER … GRANT TRUE WISDOM FROM ABOVE.

These words were relevant 50 years ago when Jamaica became an independent nation and they demonstrate our relationship with God. 50 years later and Jamaicans can freely say that God has brought us from a mighty long way. In recognition of God within our midst and responsible for our accomplishments and development as a people and Nation we want to recommit to the statements and principles of our National Anthem this Golden Jubilee year.

Gospelympics 2012 is a purposeful way that Jamaicans can publicly recommit to God on behalf of Jamaica. Our aim is to gather in unison and in a loud voice thank God for all that he has done for us and Jamaica ; praise God for all that he has done for us and Jamaica ; and to pray to God for the continued growth, development, and prosperity for Jamaica.

In light of this glorious occasion Gospelympics 2012 was conceived. In celebration of this event we have invited Gospel heavy weight and legend Pastor Evangelist Shirley Caesar to lead us in a marathon of prayers, praise, and thanksgiving for Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of Independence.She will be joined on stage by a Jamaican choir and a whole host of top London based Jamaican artists, evangelists and pastors including Jamaica gospel festival winner Oliver Ashley, Roger Samuels and child evangelist Little Kim. All for the purpose of asking the Eternal Father to bless our land – Jamaica – Land we love.
