President’s Report 2005-2006

The Year in Review

This has been a banner year for the Manitoba Chapter of FMI. Our goal as a Board was to increase both membership and attendance at our events. The results speak for themselves: we had record membership numbers for the year and attendance at the events we sponsored was almost triple that of the previous years. The success of the chapter has been a reflection of the efforts of our board of directors. Richard Decka, Vice-President, managed and expanded our mailing lists ensuring that both members and individuals that attended our events received notifications. Don Baril-Bissett drafted both event notices and general communications, and Cheryl Blahey made our chapter web page a useful tool for communicating and disseminating information.

Our events ran smoothly largely due to the efforts of Michelle Dedieu, Facilities Director and Nancy Weedon, Registration Director. Mike McGinn continued to do an excellent job as our Treasurer, Geoffrey Govia took responsibility for maintaining our membership list, and Elise Downey kept our records as Secretary.

The chapter hosted six professional development events including five luncheon speakers and two-half day sessions. All were extremely successful.

The New Year

Both Nancy Weedon and Elise Downey will be leaving the board. I would like to thank them both for their hard work this past year. Two new members will be joining our board. Lynn Cowley and Marion Guinn have volunteered and I am looking forward to working with them both.

The new year will be an exciting one. I have had a number of discussions with the western chapter presidents and we have made plans to pool our resources to continue to attract high caliber speakers for our events. In addition, PSMW 2007 will be hosted by the Manitoba Chapter and you will hear more about that event shortly from the organizing co-chair Ron Smith.
