Cal Fire needs their space to do their job

So, we can get people out, people evacuated

And for fire to get in

Once they are done PG&E has to go in

AT&T will have to go in

Water department

If road closed we are there for a reason

We are just trying to make sure people can do their job

Power outages

Treat as 4-way stop

A blinking red light is a stop sign

Call 911 if lights out

Preparation for evacuations if we get to the point we need to evacuate

Communication

Commitment

And cooperation

Fire activity is extreme, constantly changing weather

4 stations and 5th one almost done in Browns valley

cooperative relationship we have with Cal Fire

Napa county fire managed by incident management team

North Easterly winds tonight

Cause us concern for eastern side of our city borders

Borders closest to wildland urban border area

1st stage would be an advisory if we have concern

advisory just means be prepared

we hope to give you time

but with extreme weather it beats us to punch in some cases

advisory beprepared

to the point

that when we say it is time to go

please go when we say go

and you won’t come back for 4-7 days

pack valuables

belongings

communication

The Eastern side of our city borders is of greatest concern tonight (this was written on Wednesday 10/11/17)

Chris Anthony

Cal fire assigned to south fires

This is a very significant event for the state of California

It is historic

Happening more often than in other years

These fires only get larger and more devastating

North East wins

We have Red Flag warning by national weather service

Chief potter

This is an advisory notice

This is not mandatory

Napa County

When Evacuations advisories are issued they are issued by the Sheriff's Department

Areas east of Silverado trail between Trancas and Soscol

East of Soscol between Silverado trail

East of 221 West Imola and Highway 29

East of 229 221 - Jamison

North of Jameson Canyon between Highway 12 and the Napa Solano county line

Chief Potter

Advisory

Trancas south on Silverado trail to Soscol point

Soscol to highway 221 past Napa college

Stonecrest

Alta heights

Shortleff

Imola neighborhood

If we get the point that we need to leave our homes

Then when do we get to go back in?

You will be allowed back in when safe

Electricity, water, sewer works, power lines off street

That’s why prepare for 7-day trip away from home

Park car outside of garage

Power might go out again

Have family members pictures pets and clothing and medication and cash and credit cards ready to go

That you can put in truck quickly if you have to leave

What routes do we take?

Have destination planned

Let your relatives know where you are leaving

If fire in South Napa then drive north

Preplan

Plan now

Not when you are stressed

Steve Potter

Police chief

City of Napa

County will be having a meeting tomorrow at Napa Valley unified school district 4 pm tomorrow October 12

Be prepared

Seek constant truthful information

Don’t fall for the rumors

Really have a plan in place

How will PG&E recover?

Circuit based restoration

We try to restore largest number of customers 1st

If road blocked how do you find out if your home has been destroyed or not

Cal fire question

We have damage inspection teams cataloguing every home that has been damaged or destroyed

Until that gets validated and completed that information doesn’t come out

Damage assessment team goes through one area at a time

When that is validated the information will come out

If evacuated should you turn gas off

If you can smell gas tur it off

If you have the tool you can do it

We will turn your gas off anyway

If you shut off your gas phone and tell us you did it

We will still come back when time to turn back on

Fire line is north 3rd the curve in the country club

After assessment done we will work with Napa county building department and assessor’s office on getting the information out

No timeline worked out yet

? using flame retardant on east side

253-4501 for county for permit process

we had a lot of air tankers working today on east side of atlas

they put retardant down in front of active fire line

Vineyards do not carry fire

They are fire breaks for us

Use of fire retardant will be used throughout this even until the fire is under control

Sherriff not going to circle oaks

They are tied up with Calistoga evacuations

253-4501

wind advisory

possible 20 miles per hour winds

we will elevate advisory to evacuation based on extreme fire behavior

because of the advisory

we have increased patrol staffing in neighborhoods I listed

based on the advisory

ask the police

ask them on routes out of the neighborhood

how do vineyards act as a buffer?

Sunday night oakwoodland, grasses

Was explosive fast-moving fire

Fire needs fuel to burn

In vineyards, not as much fuel

It is irrigated

Water content is higher

There is bear ground

Fire doesn’t carry well in those areas

They serve as a natural fire break for us

When evacuation notice sent?

Temp

Topography

Fuel forces

The wind

The whole environmental condition

If on east side

Figure out how to leave on west side

You need to know where the fires are

Cal fire web page so they can get updated information on location of the fire

Who makes decision as when people can return

Cal Fire will make that determination

It is when the power is safe

No active power lines

Running water sewer and power restored

We don’t want people to get hurt

When we come out and say it’s time to evacuate

We want you to know we are really serious

Fires are more extreme, more aggressive

Cars with gas

Money

Credit cards

Valuables

Everything ready to go

How notified

Someone in uniform

Drive through the neighborhood

We will blast the siren

Lights on the car

If we have time we mark property with tape so police don’t go to your house multiple times

There is no advisory on the west side of town right now

We put more police officers because of Broadmoor rumor

But the fire never got that close

The fire still has not encroached into the browns valley area

They ask you to go to web site and register online

Then we can get ahold of you when needed

This will go on for months as an active event

Then recovery period after that

Some residents post event will not have total devastation

But they may still have damage to their properties

And they will need assistance

Convergence of fires is not unexpected

The fires on the west side

Norrbom, Partrick Road, Nuns, and Pressley and Adobe

Adobe north

Some of these fires will actually burn together

This decreases the amount of perimeter the fire fighters have to deal with

We have fire agencies from all over the state

It is not just Cal Fire

No need to panic

It is expected

They have decades of experience on the team

They have been to very many large fires

Density and fuel allows fire to move from ground to trees

Where for more information on 3rdavenue?

It had not burned west of 4th avenue

You would be first in line

Continue to log into website

They log information in as soon as they get it

12-hour info logged in

24 hour maps for

lots of information on call fire website

has entire incident

road closures

use 253-4501 to ask if map has been moved and how you can access it

maps used to be on county web page

planning evacuation route

south or west

121 out to Sonoma

or you have north

if fire on south east corner instead of going south go as far west as youcan then find a way south

you could take highway 37 across

what can be done if evacuated

they are only allowing people in for pets and medication

they are tied up with Calistoga tonight with evacuations

253-4501 Sheriffsdepartment

I’m sure they will start escorts soon

We would like to have more of these meetings

We have not yet scheduled these

We will announce subsequent meetings through the city web page

Old Sonoma road is open as an exit to the west

Old map said it was not open

It is open

Go south on 29

Take 121 west to Sonoma

Or over southern crossing via Jameson Canyon to Highway 80

Or south am can to 37 and go east or west on 37

I would go straight down to highway 37 Chief Potter

East Napa

We are in an advisory

I would have my stuff ready

We don’t know how much the wind will pick up

Rely on police and fire personnel

We don’t have the crystal ball

We can’t look into the future and know

County web page has info about pet shelters

Priorities

Save your life

Defend the property as best we can

Could wind from west kick up embers

It is possible and that does happen

If you have shingle roof

Tile roofs don’t burn that easy

If you see ember on your roof call 911

If you live east of Silverado

Advisory

Plan ahead

Gather your things

And be ready

From Cal Fire
