A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of George Overstreet Spoonamore, III.
WHEREAS, George O. Spoonamore was born on July 26, 1934, to the late George O. Spoonamore, Jr. and Susan Fisher Woods Spoonamore, and departed this life on March 30, 2005, following a valiant battle with cancer. At the time of his passing, he was serving his third term as Lincoln County Court Clerk, and, despite his failing health, he continued serving his community, both as an elected official, and by speaking to groups about his illness and the importance of colon cancer screening after age 50. Through the years, he quietly went about random acts of kindness, for friends and even those he did not know; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Spoonamore was a highly respected expert in dairy farming, judging dairy shows throughout the state, as well as raising and milking registered Holsteins for most of his life. Always serving his fellow citizens, he frequently took time to talk with young dairy show participants, encouraging them to carry on the tradition of dairy farming, and emphasizing the importance of the dairy business as a part of Kentucky's heritage and economy. He was also a dedicated member of Harris Memorial Methodist Church, where he continued to serve on the Board of Trustees until he was unable to do so; and
WHEREAS, George Spoonamore left behind a loving family, including his wife, Kate Ball Spoonamore; a son, George O. "Sonny" Spoonamore, IV; daughters, Gayle Spoonamore Carter, and Susan Kay Spoonamore, of the LRC staff; brothers, Jim Spoonamore and Jim Reed; and his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Amy Isaacs, Gary Owens, Jr., Street Spoonamore, Tinsley Spoonamore, and Chris Carter; great grandchildren, Gabby Gabriel and Lukas Kain Isaacs; and six nieces and eight nephews; and
WHEREAS, the loss of this fine Kentuckian leaves heavy the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he served;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
