Minutes

Minutes of the January 3, 2007 meeting accepted. M/M/S Rick Simoneau, Steve McCourt 3-0-0

Old Business

There was some question of who would be taking care of the new playground equipment. It was thought that the School would be. It was also mentioned that the Selectmen and the School Committee should meet to see who will maintain the playground equipment and tennis courts.

Keith Cornelio/Jay Baptist Church Light

Keith Cornelio would like better lighting by Jay Baptist Church. The parking lot is across the street and this is a heavily traveled road. Many use it as a short cut from Rt 4 to Rt 140.

Keith had previously asked for a street light in that area. At this time there is one light on the corner of Smith and Stone Streets and one that is not at an intersection. The street lights are not very bright Ruth stated that Town can request lights to be changed for brighter lights at a cost to the Town or they will eventually be changed by CMP. Keith also suggested flashing amber lights that flash when pedestrians cross.

The Selectmen agreed to look into the cost of getting the lighting changed before agreeing to put another street light in that area.

Jay Family Restaurant status

Ruth Marden spoke with Janet Diaz today and she stated that most of the demolition has been completed. This has added $20,000.00 to price the original price of $250,000.00. Janet stated that she would hold the building for 30 days. The Town now has approximately 2 weeks left.

Ruth also presented Board with an estimate of what it would cost to renovate the building for a new Town Office. The estimate is for $500,000.00. This amount would be lowered by the demolition that has been done.

The building has a little over 7,000 square feet, the current size of the present Town Office is now approximately the same square footage (this is including the downstairs). Many people were concerned that there is no meeting room on the current plans.

There is now approximately $729,000.00 in Building Reserve Account. Craig Boone stated that there was no cost incurred to obtain the current estimate.

The Selectmen decided to hold a Special Town Meeting on January 29th at 7:00 P.M. for the purpose of voting on whether to purchase the Jay Family Restaurant with money from the Building Reserve Fund. M/M/S Steve McCourt /Rick Simoneau 3-0-0

Other Business

Nomination papers will be available on January 26th for one position on the Board of Selectman, two School Board Members, and three members on the Power District.

The Selectmen’s meeting reconvened at 9:35 P.M. and went into Executive Session under MRSA Title 1 Chapter 13 Section 405 Subsection 6 for the purpose of discussing a pending legal issue. M/M/S William Harlow, Steve McCourt. 3-0-0.

Meeting returned to regular session at 10:05 P.M. No decisions were made. Meeting adjourned. M/M/S

The next regularly scheduled meeting is Monday, January 29th 2007 at 6:00 P.M. at the Middle School Cafeteria.
