2970U Pre-Flight Inspection Checklist:

1.  Tiedowns, chocks, Tanis cord…..Remove

2.  Startup considerations…propwash, braking

3. Wing Tops/Fuel Tanks

Fuel Level Both Wings - Visual check

If needed get gas (AVGAS 100) before proceeding with other fuel tank

related items.

Filler caps Both Wings - Secure

Wing Tops Inspect for loose screws, rivets and damage

4.  Cockpit

Paperwork:

Hobbs – record start time

ELT – 12 calendar months or 1 cum. Hr of use

Static Pressure – 24 calendar months

Transponder - “ “ “

Annual

GPS (IFR) database – 28 day cycle VOR (IFR) – 30 days

Airworthiness certificate

Registration

Operating limitations (POH)

Weight/loading data

Control wheel lock Remove

Primary Flight controls ……………Proper operation

Pitot Heat On - observe Ammeter drop - then off

Strobe/Beacon On - visually check – off

Night Flights

Nav Lights & Strobes On

Walk around plane and visually check to see that all are operating.

Landing Light On

Visually check from outside if not dark enough to see that it’s on from inside the cockpit.

Instrument Lights On

Light switches Off (except beacon)

Master switch Off

Flashlights ……………………………Readily available

5.  Right Wing

Flap Check freedom of movement and security.

Aileron Check security and freedom of movement

Wing tip Check for cracks; Check light security.

Leading edge Look for dents

Main Gear strut ………………Check for proper inflation (4.5 in.)

Fuel sump Check sample for color, water and dirt.

Fuel vent………………………………Check

Main landing gear Check tire wear (inflation 35-40 psi), brake pads, leaking brake fluid.

Inspection covers……………………Secure

6. Nose

Cowling Check secured.

Oil……12 Quarts max; 9 Quarts minimum. (safe = 2-3/4 qts)Dipstick properly seated

Nose gear Check tire wear (inflation 29 psi); Strut inflation (3.25 in.); security

Engine compartment Check for bird’s nests

Cowling……………………………….Secure

Propeller Check for nicks and security;

Spinner Check security

Alternator belt ……………………….Check tension

Landing light Check security

Air Filter, Inlets Check clean and security

Fuel sump………2 checks ( R & L selector)Check sample for color, water and dirt.

7.  Left Wing

Leading edge Look for dents

Main Gear strut ………………Check for proper inflation (4.5 in.)

Main landing gear Check tire wear (inflation 35-40 psi), brake pads, leaking brake fluid.

Inspection covers……………………Secure

Fuel sump Check sample for color, water and dirt.

Fuel vent………………………………Check

Pitot/Static Check cover off; Check holes not obstructed.

Wing tip Check for cracks; Check light security.

Aileron Check security and freedom of movement.

Flap Check freedom of movement and security.

Stall Warning Vane Check for free operation

8. Fuselage – Left Side

Check for loose rivets, screws and damage.

Air inlets – clear

Antennas – underside………………Check

8.  Empenage

Stabilator Check security and freedom of movement.

Rudder Check security and freedom of movement.

9.  Fuselage – Right Side

Check for loose rivets, screws and damage

Antennas – top………………………Check

Baggage Door Closed and locked
