1.3 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. The Work shall consist of furnishing and installing waterproof expansion joints in accordance with the details shown on the plans and the requirements of the specifications. Standard preformed sealant shall be silicone pre-coated, preformed, pre-compressed, self-expanding, sealant system.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Sealtite transitions are made to meet specific job configurations where a field configured transition is impractical. Sealtite custom transitions can be made from full length sticks with a transition at the end to reduce the need for most transition joins in the horizontal or vertical plane. Sealtite custom factory transitions are available for the entire Sealtite product line.

1. Factory fabricated project specific preformed sealant transitions shall be used to provide sealant continuity and minimize field splices.

1.5 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:

1. Preparation instructions and recommendations.

2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

3. Installation methods.

C. Shop Drawings: Sealant and expansion joint drawings indicating pertinent dimensions, general construction, and expansion joint opening dimensions.

1. Indicate factory transitions and field joints required.

D. Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) square representing actual product, color, and patterns.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 year experience manufacturing similar products.

B. Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 year experience installing similar products.

C. ISO Certification: Manufacturer shall be ISO-9001 certified and shall provide written confirmation that a formal Quality management System and Quality Processes have been adopted in the areas of, (but not limited to) manufacturing, quality control and customer service for all processes, products and their components.

When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.

1.7 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS

A. Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

1. Conduct a pre-construction meeting with all parties and trades involved in the treatment of work at and around expansion joints including, but not limited to, concrete, mechanical, electrical, landscaping, masonry, waterproofing, firestopping, caulking, flooring and other finish trade subcontractors.

2. All superintendents and foremen with responsibility for oversight and setting of the joint gap shall attend this meeting.

3. The Contractor is responsible to coordinate and schedule all trades and ensure that all subcontractors understand their responsibilities in relation to expansion joints and that their work cannot impede anticipated structural movement at the expansion joints, or compromise the achievement of water-tightness or life safety at expansion joints in any way.

1.8 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.

B. Handle materials to avoid damage.

1.9 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

1.10 SEQUENCING

A. Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1. Application: Developed as a "breathable" joint sealant that withstands driving rain to 12psf (69mph wind) while still allowing an escape for moisture trapped inside cavity walls. Provides a watertight (600Pa), vapor permeable, UV stable, chemically resistant, soundproof, and insulated urethane primary seal.
