Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Research Clinician Scientist with CÚRAM at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The position is available for1 year. The project representsa Science Foundation Ireland facilitated collaboration between NUI Galway and Medtronic.

Job Description:

The position is designed for the research and development of novel device-based solutions for the treatment of acute heart failure.

Applications are welcome from those who may wish to pursue a Masters/further study in this area and financial support for fees will be provided.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Initial validation process: validate target market, identify user needs, development strategy and planning.
  • Development of prototypes, test method development and bench testing.
  • Leading concept refinement, prototype development (second phase), bench testing, proof of concept pre-clinical study, design review.
  • Commercial work plan: clinical market, business development, IP filing.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities to develop their own career reputation and career development as outlined, discussed and agreed with PI without adversely impacting the primary research role.

Essential Criteria

  • Medical graduate (MBBS or MB BcH BAO).
  • Medical Doctorate (MD), level 10 on the National Framework of Qualifications from a recognised institution/university.
  • Candidates must be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Good understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and some clinical experience in interventional cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience of academia-industry engagement is desirable.
  • Demonstratedabilityto work collaborativelyandproductivelywith staffandstudentsfroma diverserangeofbackgrounds.
  • Highlevelorganisational skills withtheabilitytosetpriorities,meetdeadlines,initiateand follow-upactions, allwithminimalornosupervision
  • Experience of research outreach activities to public.
  • Publications in high impact factor journals and active participation in international conferences and meetings is desirable.

Salary:€44,930 fixedper annum
