JOB DESCRIPTION

Post:Temporary Teacher of English

(to cover maternity absence)

Job Summary:You are required to carry out the duties of a school teacher under the terms of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions documents and the Teachers’ Standards published by the Secretary of State for Education.

Principle Responsibilities:

Teaching Responsibilities

  1. To take responsibility for the preparation, delivery and evaluation of an effective teaching and learning curriculum in one or more subject specialities. Within these areas to promote genuine cross-curricular work, whole staff awareness and inclusive access for all pupils.
  2. To regularly track and assess individual pupil progress in order to set challenging targets and appropriate schemes of work.
  3. To regularly record and update assessment data as requested and in accordance with the schools procedure.
  4. To act as a class tutor, providing PSCHE/Career Training, overseeing the group’s behaviour targets and behaviour points and representing your group before staff and other professionals.
  5. To maintain detailed records of lessons, lesson plans and evaluations, individual pupil assessments and schemes of work in line with whole school procedures.
  6. To assist in the preparation of IEPs and PEPs for pupils in your tutor group and to collate information for Annual Reviews and Annual Reports.
  7. To direct tasks for Teaching Assistants attached to your subject and to assist them with their own professional development, including performance management.
  8. To ensure that your teaching environments and resources are fresh, engaging, practical and safe and that they contribute to your lessons appropriately to stimulate and motivate the pupils.
  9. To manage your capitation accountably to ensure that you are fully resourced for consumables and other equipment.
  10. To participate in the annual appraisal/performance management process and to attend line management meetings as required.
  11. Through the Performance Management process maintain a lively interest in your own professional development, identify appropriate and relevant training, establishing links with colleagues in other schools and sharing your expertise with colleagues.
  12. To contribute to the development of pupils’ emotional literacy.
  13. To maintain awareness and understanding of the special educational needs of the pupils and to ensure that programmes of education meet those needs most effectively.
  14. To contribute to the Behaviour Management Procedures, including detentions, of the School through proactive and consistent approaches and adoption of the Whole School Policies at all times.
  15. To work supportively with colleagues, to ensure that the teaching and learning are of the highest possible standards and that development is in line with the School Plan.
  16. To be responsible for e-Safety across the School.
  17. To cooperate with the employer in all matters concerning Health and Safety and take reasonable care of their own Health and Safety and that of others.
  18. To ensure there is genuine equality of opportunities for pupils in all areas of your responsibility and that the School Race Equality and Anti Bullying Policies are adhered to.
  19. To be fully aware of all Child Protection Policies and the issues regarding Safeguarding Pupils.
  20. To participate in Whole School and Key Stage Assemblies when requested and to encourage pupils and support staff to share these responsibilities.

The duties may be varied to meet the changing needs and demands of the School at the discretion of the Principal in consultation with you. This job description does not form part of the contract of employment. It denotes the way the post holder is expected and required to perform and complete particular duties.
