JOB DESCRIPTION
Post:Project Officer – Men’s ShedFermanagh
Location:AMH New Horizons - Fermanagh
Responsible to:Service Manager – Men’s Shed
Accountable to:Head of Operations
Role:The overall purpose of the post is to effectively develop and deliver the Men’s Shed project for men aged 50 years plus in Fermanaghwith the aim of:
- Providing structured activity programmes
- Combating social exclusion
- Lead on the development of a social enterprise within the men’s shed
- Promoting positive mental and physical health and well-being
- Enhancing the development and quality of life of members
- Developing volunteering opportunities
- Developing intergenerational opportunities within the local area

Key Result Area 1: Recruitment and Development of Members and Volunteers
- To take the lead role in the recruitment of members and volunteers for the Men’s Shed project
- To support the initial assessment of members including the completion of membership forms
- To support the completion of questionnaires/health improvement evaluations
- To provide or source externally, appropriate advice, guidance and support on a range of issues for members
Key Result Area 2: Planning and Facilitation of Men’s Shed Activities
- To plan and delivera programme of practical activities linked to mental and physical well-being that address the needs and preferences of members
- To organise and monitor programmes delivered by other providers/partner organisations
- To develop and implement intergenerational activities
- To ensure that all activities provided:
- Match the project’s operational and budgetary requirements
- Provide value for money and meet the guidelines agreed with the funder
- Are evaluated and recommendations implemented where appropriate.
Key Result Area 3: Quality Assuring Service Delivery
- To ensure that all member and volunteer information is maintained and held in accordance with AMH policies and procedures
- To provide supervision and support to project volunteers
- To ensure that all complaints are handled in accordance with organisational procedures
- To ensure that all data collection and monitoring reports are completed in accordance with organisational guidance
- To satisfy all contractual requirements as directed by stakeholders and funders in relation to service delivery
- To ensure adherence to relevant organisational and legislative requirements
- To support quality improvement systems including Investors in People.
Key Result Area 4: Health & Safety
- To ensure that all aspects of legislative and organisational Health & Safety standards and requirements are maintained
- To ensure that, where any risk has been identified in relation to new or existing members, a risk assessment is carried out and appropriate follow up action is taken.
- To ensure adherence to AMH Safeguarding policy and procedures.
Key Result Area 5: Personal Training, Development and Practice
- To take part in supervision, appraisal and training as identified through AMH’s Staff Learning and Development Processes
- To take personal responsibility for continuing personal and professional development and maintain a current continuing professional development portfolio.

Key Result Area 6: Operational Targets
To realise annual operational targets in respect of:
- Recruitment of Men’s Shed members
- Recruitment of volunteers
- Programme of activities for members
- Improved physical and mental health of members
- Volunteering outcomes for members
- Intergenerational engagement through involvement of young people
In addition to the above duties the post holder with be expected to be flexible in discharging these duties and any other additional tasks as may be reasonably assigned according to the changing priorities of the company.

1 / EDUCATION/ PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Educated to A Level/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent /
A relevant degree/or professional qualification in a health related or community development discipline /
2.0 / EXPERIENCE
Paid or voluntary experience of working with adults with mental health needs, older people or other relevant disadvantaged groups /
Experience of having supervised a team /
Relevant experience of co-ordinating a project or programme of activities/training /
Experience in developing and extending relevant networking opportunities /
Experience of having undertaken client focused needs based assessment, programme planning, development and delivery /
Experience of having developed and/or delivered innovative health promotion initiatives /
Experience of delivering training in a group setting /
Experience of working in a social enterprise /

Able to demonstrate excellent communication, written and presentation skills /
Knowledge of working within community/voluntary settings to realise health improvements and reduce social exclusion /
Proven ability to effectively support and work as a member of a team /

Current full driving licence, valid in the UK and access to a car on appointment or access to a form of transport which will permit them to carry out the duties and requirements of the post in full /
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an “Enhanced” pre employment check via the Access NI Service. /
6 / OTHER INFORMATION
A mileage allowance is payable for the use of a private vehicle on company business.
7 / SALARY SCALE
Salary scale £21,000 to £23,500 (pro-rata on 35 hours). Candidates will normally be appointed at the start of the pay scale
8 / HOURS OF WORK
15 hours per week,
Monday 9.00am – 1.30pm
Tuesday 9.30am – 3.30pm
Wednesday 9.30am – 1.30pm
with a requirement to work evening and weekend sessions according to the needs of the project
