CLINICAL FELLOW (STR EQUIVALENT) IN REPRODUCTIVE MEDICINE

Applications are invited for this full time Clinical Fellow post, based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. The appointee will join a team of four consultants with specialist interests in reproductive medicine to provide general infertility and assisted conception services Tayside-wide. Our obstetric and gynaecology department has 4,500 deliveries annually. Ninewells hospital is a teaching hospital and the appointee will be expected to be involved in both undergraduate and post-graduate training. This is a new post, created from additional Scottish Government funding in order to reduce NHS waiting times for assisted conception treatment to less than one year. The post is fixed term for one year from 1st April 2015.

The Assisted Conception Unit provides approximately 600 treatment cycles of IVF/ICSI per year and has an internationally leading research programme. There has been substantial investment to provide state of the art accommodation for Assisted Conception Services completed in 2013. Preference will be given to those who have completed MRCOG part II and have completed their gynaecology intermediate scanning. There will be opportunities to practice specialist areas of activity in Reproductive Medicine or research according to the successful candidate’s interests and/or expertise and the existing interests within the department.

Women & Reproductive Health Clinical Team

JOB DESCRIPTION

Introduction

This is a whole-time (10 programmed activities per week), Clinical Fellow post, based at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee. The appointee will join a team of four consultants with specialist interests in reproductive medicine to provide general infertility and assisted conception services Tayside-wide.

Job Summary

The post holder will have direct clinical involvement in general infertility and assisted conception treatment. He/she must be medically qualified and is expected to hold the MRCOG part I and have completed their gynaecology intermediate scanning (or equivalent). There will clinical commitments to infertility services across Tayside, including the assisted conception unit at Ninewells hospital with opportunities to practice specialist areas of activity in Reproductive Medicine or research according to the successful candidate’s interests and/or expertise and the existing interests within the department. He/she will be expected to directly supervise junior staff and to participate in the teaching of undergraduates. He/she will be expected to help set and maintain standards and undertake administrative tasks that arise from the post.

Preference will be given to those who have completed MRCOG part II and have completed gynaecology intermediate scanning training.

Women and Reproductive Health Clinical Team

This team forms part of the Women and Child Health Clinical Group that was reconfigured as part of the management structure reorganisation when two acute hospitals trusts became Tayside University Hospitals NHS Trust in April 1999. The Clinical Group is made up of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Child Health. The Associate Medical Director is Dr David Johnston, Consultant Paediatrician. The Clinical Service Manager is Dawn Sturrock. The Clinical Director for Women & Reproductive Health is Dr Tony Nicoll.

Obstetrics

The Maternity Services provide a comprehensive service to Tayside (population 375,000) and NE Fife, and the team manages all midwifery staff in the two hospitals and community. Apart from the Consultant Led Unit in Dundee there is an alongside Midwife Led Unit in Ninewells Hospital and three Midwife Led Community Maternity Units (CMUs), one each in Arbroath, Montrose and Perth.

A team of eight Consultants provide a specialist feto-maternal medical service for high risk pregnancies.


Gynaecology

There are well established services providing, in addition to General Gynaecology for Tayside,

Special Interests including:

·  Community Gynaecology and Family Planning (in conjunction with the Primary Health Care

There is a comprehensive infertility service across service across Tayside, with the Assisted Conception Unit based at Ninewells Hospital. This provides approximately 600 treatment cycles of IVF/ICSI per year and has an internationally leading research programme. The unit has undergone a recent £5 million rebuilt to establish state of the art facilities. The Unit has input from four Consultants.

Environment

Dundee is the fourth largest city in Scotland (population 170,000) and as the administrative capital for Tayside region it is undergoing a remarkable cultural and structural resurgence. The city is situated in the magnificent surroundings on the north bank of the Tay estuary and houses two Universities, the Medical School being a very important part of The University of Dundee. To the north are the glens and mountains of Angus and sixty miles to the south is the Scotland's capital city of Edinburgh.

Perth (population 42,000), known as "The Fair City" is located at the very heart of Scotland. Famous for its salmon fishing in the River Tay, Perth's status as former capital of Scotland has given it a wealth of historical associations and a centuries-old tradition of welcoming visitors. Perth is well served by motorway and main trunk roads giving excellent communications throughout Tayside and with the rest of Scotland. It lies 22 miles to the west of Dundee.

The appointed postholder will be required to undertake any duties within the area served, either as a routine commitment or due to unforeseen circumstances in agreement with the Clinical Group.
