Post: Community Fundraiser

Responsible to: Head of Income Generation

Role summary: To build relationships with individuals, volunteers and community based groups to maximise income and awareness generating opportunities for the Hospice. You will manage and co-ordinate a broad portfolio of fundraising activities, whilst achieving clear income targets. Ensuring that every aspect of the “the supporter journey” is well planned and managed will be an important feature of this post.

Key responsibilities

  1. To sustain and grow community fundraising income at the Hospice from existing and new sources to meet targets and delivered within budget.
  1. To be proactive in seeking out new partnerships with individuals and groups across the local community, engaging with a wide variety of audiences from schools, colleges, churches, civic groups and clubs, various community groups and local councils.
  1. To be responsible for managing and developing relationships with those who choose to raise money in aid of the Hospice and provide personalised supporter care to ensure they have a trusted point of contact, are supported fully and they reach their maximum fundraising potential.
  1. To liaise with volunteers within the Hospice Friends network:
  • To maximise their fundraising potential and ensure they are working within expected Fundraising Standards and best practice and they are upholding the Hospice messages and reputation, as well as complying with the relevant polices and procedures.
  • To ensure they are working to the Support Group constitution and they are effective fundraising ambassadors for the Hospice.
  1. To represent and speak on behalf of the Hospice to a variety of audiences.
  1. To work closely with other Hospice departments to share knowledge and contacts, including liaison with the Youth and Community Team on a special engagement plan for schools and colleges.
  1. To design, produceand circulate community fundraising literature and materials to assist and inform local supporters.
  1. To ensure compliance with charity law, all appropriate national fundraising standards (including the Code of Fundraising Practice) and brand messages.
  1. To maintain a network of collection boxes and recruit new sites.
  1. To research, plan and implement community fundraising initiatives and identify supporters accordingly, for example through the use of online fundraising methods, periodic raffles, scratch cards, a prize lottery and individual/team challenges.
  1. To be a representative of the Hospice in the community, giving presentations and networking through attendance at relevant meetings, forums and other outside events.
  1. Providing support and advice to enquiries regarding “In Aid of” fundraising and monitoring each activity up to the receipt of the gift, as well asthe subsequent acknowledgement of the donation.
  1. To be responsible for adding community contact records to the Raiser’s Edge (RE) database and update supporter/event details as required. Identify trends and opportunities through analysis of the data held on Raiser’s Edge.
  1. To monitor the success of community fundraising at other Hospice’s and across the charity sector. Actively research and recommend potential new community fundraising ideas.
  1. To supervise support staff and maximise volunteer opportunities.
  1. To plan short, medium and longer term activity in accordance with the Hospice’s Five Year Strategy for Service Development.

General

  1. To work out of hours from time-to-time (including evenings and weekends) andhave a willingness to work flexibly.
  1. To ensure effective communication with the line manager (via 1-to-1s and informal conversations).
  1. To contribute to the effective development of the team at regular Hospice meetings.
  1. To actively look for continuing opportunities and areas for professional and self-development.
  1. To participate in the annual appraisal programme.
  1. To attend mandatory training
  1. To ensure skills and knowledge are kept relevant and up to date.
  1. To be aware of and follow all Hospice policies and procedures.
  1. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post and as requested by the Head of Income Generation.
