Position Summary and Purpose:

The Development Associate is an integral part of the fund development team and is responsible for completing advanced, diversified and confidential administrative duties requiring professionalism and organization. To be successful in this position, the Development Associate must have excellent computer skills, interpersonal skills, have initiative and enthusiasm, good attention to detail and the ability to work well with minimal supervision.

Duties & Responsibilities — Essential Functions:
  • Process all memberships and donations through data entry into a computer database (Altru), including accurate transmittal of batch reporting to the accounting department, production of membership materials, coordination of matching gifts, and generation of all thank you letters in established time line.
  • Create timely and accurate development reports.
  • Ensure consistent and timely delivery of all member and donor correspondence.
  • Prepare all membership renewal materials and generate monthly mailings in collaboration with contracted mailing house. Retention of current members is a top priority.
  • Work with Admissions staff to provide point-of-sale membership sales materials and ensure correct and accurate information is received for membership processing as well as recruit new members at Gantt events.
  • Respond promptly to all membership and donation inquiries.
  • Manage internal mailings including development of mailing lists, e-mail lists, mail merging letters and envelopes/labels, stuffing letters, and processing postage.
  • Assist in the coordination of special membership campaigns and membership/donor events.
  • Track RSVPs for development events and meetings.
  • Provide general administrative support.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive departmental filing system.
  • Participate in development team’s strategic and tactical planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Consideration:

  • Education:College graduate
  • Professional Experience:Minimum 2 years successful development/CRM management experience. Altru experience preferred. Non-profit development office experience preferred.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Excellent verbal, written and interpersonalcommunication skills, leadership qualities, excellent organizational skills and computer savvy/highly proficient in Microsoft Office software. Ability to organize own work, coordinate projects with others, manage multiple projects simultaneously and establish procedures for good information management and research.Must be flexible and able to work well with others, as well as observe and anticipate needs.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Position requires frequent sitting, standing and walking. May require sitting and working at a computer station for extended periods of time. Requires ability to communicate with others in-person and on the telephone. Manual dexterity needed for using computer keyboard and calculator. Must have adequate vision to operate computer and complete paperwork. May require occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Must be able and willing to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends.
