POSITION: River Watch and Water Quality Intern

START & END DATE: October 2, 2017 to March1,2018

PAY RATE: $13.50/hour

LOCATION: CPW 6060 Broadway, Denver Headquarters

JOB DESCRIPTION:

River Watch has a set annual cycle to gather and deliver water qualityand macroinvertebrate dataand support its volunteers. This position would be exposed to all aspects of this cycle which includes training in field collection, laboratory analysis, training volunteers, assist with volunteer management, program presentations, event planning, website and social media, data entry, validation, management and filing, laboratory and equipment inventory and maintenance, sample processing, shipping, site visits, program documentation, data analyses, report writing and some Clean Water Act policy work.

This position’s primary responsibilities will be focused on a combination of River Watch Program needs, skill set and interest of intern and producing some tangible deliverables (while gaining experience). The position will allow for some field work but the primary responsibilities will involve working with data, data management, analyses, report writing, website content development, assisting volunteers and laboratory and equipment support.In addition to assisting with River Watch, the intern will have the opportunity to create other specific experiences relevant to their career goals, inside CPW or external, within resource limitations. A plan with measurable results will be developed that will guide intern’s workload, evaluation and achievements. Positon will report to CPW River Watch Program Manager and work with the entire River Watch team.

We are looking for someone who is interested in a career with natural resources, including water, water quality, wildlife, working with volunteers, data analyse, reporting and connections to policy. We hope this experience would help them build a skill set for a related career in natural resources or further studies in a an under graduate or graduate program.

Pay is biweekly starting after the first two weeks of work and ending two weeks after last two week pay period. No official holidays or leave time with position. Retirement benefitsincluded.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be 18-24 years old.
  2. Must be able to physically work every day in the 6060 Broadway, Denver officewhere supervision, equipment and support resides.
  3. Must be physically able to lift, carry or move equipment. Must be willing to work in laboratory environment with limited field work in rivers.
  4. Be able to travel for several days to a week at a time (once a month).
  5. Have a valid driver’s license.
  6. Be able to work 8-5 Monday through Friday (40 hours per week). Occassional weekend work may be required. If other commitments interfere with a 40 hour work week you will need to explain what they are and how you will manage your time.
  7. Demonstrate an interest and acuity for stream ecology, chemistry and biology, water quality policy.
  8. Demonstrate experience or willingness to learn using computer programs, specifically in:
  9. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access
  10. Webpage and application programs such as wordpress, html, css, javascript or pHp
  11. Demonstrate an interest in fund raising, website / application content development and social media.
  12. Willing to teach others what they have learned and River Watch Protocols, enjoy working with people.
  13. Be resourceful and able to work independently while also being a contributing member of a team.
  14. Be okay with mundane tasks (filing, data entry, equipment cleaning) as well as high level critical thinking tasks.
