AP and Transitions Coordinator

Nature and Scope of AP Coordinator

An AP coordinator helps guide students in the AP process, from course registration through the monitoring process and finally through the organizing and implementation of all AP testing procedures.

The AP coordinator encourages, monitors and records the progress of their pupils in their AP courses.

The AP coordinator must also keep up-to-date with developments in the AP program, new resources, methods and objectives. The coordinator liaises and networks with other professionals, parents and guardians both informally and formally.

Nature and Scope of Transitions Coordinator

A Transitions coordinator guides or teaches transitions subjects and activities to pupils in high school. The transitions coordinator plans lessons and devotions in line with Core objectives to ensure that pupils are prepared for the university application process and transitioning to university.

The transitions coordinator meets twice annually with all high school pupils to guide students in their choice of courses in relation to their university and life goals. They also encourage, monitor and record the progress of their pupils.

The transition coordinator must also keep up-to-date with developments in their topic area, new resources, methods and objectives. The coordinator liaises and networks with other professionals, parents and guardians both informally and formally.

2. Curriculum and Instruction

e.  Motive your students in the successful completion of AP courses and exams

f.  Provide feedback to parents on your pupil’s progress at parent teacher interviews and other meetings

g.  Working with others, especially the Transitions Coordinator, Registrar and Secondary Principal to plan and coordinate work – liaise and be flexible

h.  Stay up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the AP program

i.  Taking part in school events and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening

j.  Keep High School Principal informed of anyAP-related changes/developments

k.  Cooperate with the Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.

l.  Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout all activities

m.  Follow the Matthew 18:15-20 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration

3. Supervision

a.  Help Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, as assigned, especially in related areas (e.g. University and Careers fairs, etc.)

b.  Liaise with appropriate personnel to ensure quality activities for AP students

c.  Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth

d.  Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions at school

e.  Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.

f.  Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the administration.

4. Professional Development

a.  Annually submit in writing his/her professional goals to the Principal

b.  Participate with faculty and administration in professional development and in-service activities

c.  Remain abreast of current developments in technology, learning and theory through active collaboration with other professionals, attending appropriate workshops and conferences, and through reading of professional journals, especially relating to the AP program

Previous travel and related experience preferred. Typical work activities include:

·  Work with other high school teachers, the Registrar in preparing pupils for qualifications and external examinations related to the AP program

·  Preparing pupils for university entrance requirements by providing information and guidance relative to AP courses

·  maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge and then devising relevant activities

·  participating in departmental and all-staff meetings, Committee meetings, parent-teacher meetings, all school-events and whole school training events as relevant to the administration of the AP program

·  liaising with other professionals, such as the Transitions coordinator, Principal, learning mentors, careers advisers, SENCO and ESL personnel to ensure successful guidance and implementation of the AP program
