Internship Job Description

The internship candidate will be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student of an

accredited College or University and have completed one semester or be a recent graduate.

An intern candidate will be available to work from mid-May though the first week in August. Their

college credit “hours” may dictate the length of their “required” term with the Springfield Sliders.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, enthusiastic, outgoing, and have a positive attitude and

personality. The ability to work varied work hours will be necessary. They must be a “team player” and

interested in more than just working in a “baseball” environment. The ability to multi-task and work in a

fast paced environment is essential. The intern should be willing to offer ideas and suggestions. They

will be punctual and professional in all their assigned duties. Confidentiality and the ability to

appropriately handle challenging situations with a high-level of professionalism is needed. Reading,

speaking and comprehending English effectively is necessary. They will need to perform effective verbal

and written communication with all members of the organization. The ability to work in a diverse and

continually changing environment will be needed. The intern will represent the organization in a

positive fashion to all business partners and the general public.

Non Game Day Duties can include: -Front desk, birthday party bookings and administration, little

league bookings, national anthem singers schedule, donation requests and fulfillment, community

appearance requests and fulfillment (Speedy, players, etc.), group sales, and assist in receiving deliveries

(concessions, promo items, souvenirs).

Game Day Duties can include: Front desk, Promotion prep/setup, concessions, game sheet (game day

script, groups, picnics, birthdays, etc.), assist in receiving deliveries (i.e. Concessions), box office, ticket

takers, scoreboard (ball, strike, line score), music, public address, and on-field activities.

A Springfield Sliders’ Intern may have exposure and opportunities in the following areas, depending

The goal of the Springfield Sliders is to provide the most beneficial experience possible for our interns, taking in consideration the needs of the interns and the Springfield Sliders.

INTERN POSITIONS NEEDED AND JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Ticketing

Be knowledgeable of ticket pricing and plans

Responsible for overseeing the box office on game days. Duties include:

- Preparation and Set-Up

oMaking sure pre-game ticket stock is adequate and inventoried

oMaking sure that will call, group and other special ticket requests are organized and accounted for

oMaking sure that cash is available and the proper paperwork is accurately filled out in order to keep records of cash income

oOrganizing box office with proper supplies and signage as required by different events

oOpen box office on time

- Selling tickets

oResponsible for selling game day tickets to customers and ensuring accuracy during transaction

oOversee one or more ticket sellers and balance their cash drawer at the end of the day

oRespond to customer questions and special requests; have knowledge of any special game day activities

- Closing box office

oClose the box office at the appropriate time

oDo complete inventory of ticket stock

oBalance cash drawers

oClean and organize the box office for the next game

Participate in post game events

- Meet and Eat events with the Sliders team and fans after games

- Greet and thank guests as they leave the ballpark after games

Merchandise and Customer Service

Be knowledgeable about available merchandise and pricing

Oversee operation of merchandise booth on game days

- Preparation and set-up of merchandise booth on game days

oMake sure adequate inventory is on hand for all types of products sold

oAlert management of any outages or short supply of items

oClean and organize display items to maximize sales

oSet-up cash drawers and fill out paperwork to ensure accurate record keeping

oOpen merchandise booth on time

- Selling merchandise

oAssist customers with merchandise purchases

oEnsure accurate cash transactions

- Assist guests with all manner of questions, comments and concerns

oBe knowledgeable about the stadium, its operations, the team, and any and all promotions and events associated with the team for the season

- Closing merchandise stand

oBalance cash drawers and fill out necessary inventory paperwork

oOrganize merchandise stand and prepare for the next game

oRestock booth with inventory as needed

- Participate in any post game events as time allows

Group/Birthday/Suite Coordinator

Prepare Party Deck area for group arrivals

- Ensure the Party Deck area, including all tables, chairs, etc, is clean and ready for guests

- Make sure appropriate signage is up welcoming the groups to the Party Deck

- If no group is booked make sure appropriate public signage is displayed at main gate

Prepare All You Can Eat Suite for booked group

- Ensure the All You Can Eat Suite area, including all tables, chairs, etc, is clean and ready for guests

- Set up necessary tents

Prepare Birthday Club area for any expected birthday parties

- Ensure the Birthday Club area, including all tables, chairs, etc, is clean and ready for guests

- During certain games there may be more than one birthday group

oSet-up additional party areas with necessary items

Greet Groups/Parties, etc. as they enter gate and show them to their respective areas

- Explain how things will work for their group and at what time food will be ready, etc.

Coordinate with Speedy to ensure a visit to birthday groups by Speedy

Coordinate with concessions manager about availability/delivery of the appropriate food to the appropriate groups

Handle questions and concerns of the various groups

Periodically check-in with the groups to ensure their satisfaction

Help with the tear down and clean up of each area after the groups have left

Help with the set-up of post game events as needed

Team/Batboys/Field of Dreams Coordinator

Batboys

- Coordinate and schedule batboys for all home games

- Meet with the batboys pre-game to make sure they have the appropriate safety equipment/uniforms/etc.

- Explain clearly their duties during the game

- Discuss post game duties with batboys and where to leave their equipment, etc.

Visiting Team

- Greet visiting team upon their arrival at the stadium

- Direct them to the appropriate gate for entrance and where they can find restroom facilities, etc.

- Make sure the visiting team dugout has an adequate supply of water and cups in the dugout

- Makes sure the home team has an adequate supply of water and cups in the dugout

- Check back with both dugouts during game to ensure water supply is sufficient

Field of Dreams

- Coordinate and schedule all Field of Dreams groups

- Meet Field of Dreams groups at the front gate and explain the schedule and coordinate their gathering on-field before the game

- After fulfilling pre-game duties check in with concessions stands to see if they need help

- Help set-up and participate in any post game events

-On-Field Activities Coordinator

- Organize and oversee any on-field activities including games, events, Speedy appearances, etc.

- Greet on-field participants at main gate and go over timelines and procedures

- singers

- Sign up fans for participation in on-field games as they enter the park – explain to them what they will be doing and in what inning, etc.

- During the game, coordinate participants in on-field games and give them instructions as to what they will be doing before they are out on the field

- Gather necessary props and other items that may be needed for on-field games

- Return props to their proper place after the game is complete

- When Speedy is present assist Speedy with crowds, getting on and off the field, etc.

- Help lead the crowd in special organized dances, sing-alongs, etc.

- Assist the game MC with any in-game duties that may be required

- Media

- Write press releases, player bio’s, etc. for publications and media members

- Take player photos

- Draft and prepare game recaps for distribution to media outlets

- Travel with team to away games and prepare game recaps for distribution to media outlets

- Take pictures of all Sliders’ related events and outings for use in press releases, team website and Facebook

- Take in-game pictures and all related game activity for use in press releases, team website and Facebook

- Attend all off-site events with players, etc.

- Take pictures of sponsor’s signage for use in sponsor “thank-you” package

- Food and Beverage

- Assist Food and Beverage Manager in inventory and product ordering

- Assist Food and Beverage Manager in taking deliveries and putting product in proper storage areas

- Prepare concession areas for use on game days including:

- Stock stands with necessary product

- Fill out necessary inventory sheets for each stand

- Ensure concession areas are clean and sanitary prior to gate open

- Assist in pre-game preparation of food product as necessary

Assist in supervising staff of up to 20 people

Assist in training staff as needed

Coordinate with concession managers at all outlets to ensure availability of product throughout the event

Assist Food and Beverage manager with cash handling and drops

Assist with money counts as needed

Supervise clean-up of concession areas after events

Coordinate with concession managers to ensure any issues are taken care of prior to next event

Game Day Programs and Promotions

Ensure that game programs are updated for each game with current stats, promotions, etc.

Responsible for securing up to date stats for both teams and creating the insert that is handed out at each game.

Organize needed items and procedures for each game day promotion including set-up, implementation and take down

Design and ensure distribution of game specific promotional pieces (i.e. bingo cards, vouchers, giveaways, etc.)

Assist as usher/crowd control/security for Speedy in the grandstands during games

Assist in other game day duties as needed

Greet guests as they enter the stadium and thank them as they leave
