Position overview

Contribute to the provision of a professional library and information service to the staff and students at Batchelor Institute. Under the direction of the Campus Librarian, participate in the day to day operations of the Central Australian Campus Library.

Working hours may be varied in accordance with operational needs.

Detailed Statement of Duties

  1. Actively engage in the planning and delivery of innovative library services on campus and online.
  2. Work under minimal supervision in the day to day operations of the library.
  3. Provide a high quality customer focused service to users of the library through participation in a circulation desk roster.
  4. Demonstrate self-motivation and self-management in the absence of the Campus Librarian, including monitoring equipment and building maintenance and maintaining presentation standards of the campus library and the collection.
  5. Assist the Campus Librarian in the delivery of information skills programs and library orientations.
  6. Assist with database and collection maintenance and the application of new technology to library processes.
  7. Contribute to the development and application of work processes and guidelines within the Library and Information Services as a whole and with particular reference to the Central Australian Campus library.
  8. Participate in promoting the services and resources of the library to Institute staff and students.

1.  Demonstrated capacity and commitment to work within the social, political and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian communities.

2.  Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as ability to work with minimum supervision.

3.  Successfully achieve workplace objectives with attention to detail and proven organizational skills.

4.  Demonstrated capacity to meaningfully engage with a range of stakeholders in a customer service context exercising initiative, discretion and quality communication skills.

5.  Experience in a range of computer programs and ability to trouble shoot problems.

6.  Ongoing commitment to personal professional skills development and lifelong learning principles.

7.  Capacity to obtain a NT Working with Children card (Ochre Card).

Desirable selection criteria

1.  Previous experience in a library environment.
