EMPLOYMENT TERMS:9-month position

PRIMARY DUTY:Northwest Missouri State University School of Education is seeking applications for a full-time firstgrade instructor of Horace Mann Laboratory School. The successful candidate will serve as an instructor and educational leader in a co-teaching capacity (with 2nd grade) at an innovative, project-based, child-centered kindergarten through sixth grade laboratory school. The instructor will provide elementary students with exemplary instruction within a laboratory school setting with a focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics within a social justice framework. The instructor will work collaboratively and assist in the facilitation and co-evaluation of teacher candidates in clinical field experiences,and mentor/co-teach with graduateassistants. The first/second classroom is unique in that the students share a classroom with specific grade level instruction and blended learning of integrated subjects. The instructor is responsible for promoting high expectations for students, working collaboratively with co-teacher, communicating effectively with parents, developing curriculum infusing art and music into content areas, and working collaboratively with the School of Education faculty and staff. The position includes supervision and evaluation of graduate assistants and student employees, supervision of teacher candidates in clinical experiences, and implementation of state and national standards into the curriculum. The teacher works closely with other university departments to ensure quality feedback and superior clinical experiences are provided to teacher candidates. The instructor must demonstrate an appreciation and promotion of diversity as a commitment to the School of Education and Northwest Missouri State University.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide research-based instruction to a diverse student population in a laboratory school setting
  2. Co-teach in a first/second grade blended learning environment
  3. Facilitate, co-evaluate, and provide timely feedback to practicum students about instruction in the areas of literacy, math, science, and social studies
  4. Participate in highly collaborative, professional learning activities with colleagues
  5. Build relationships with families and community members to promote regular parent involvement in school activities and ongoing partnerships
  6. Supervise and co-teach with a graduate assistant and classroom teaching assistant(s)
  7. Supervise, coach, mentor, and support teacher candidates in clinical practicum experiences
  8. Exhibit strong skills in educational technology, scholarly research, and collaboration
  9. Create lesson plans in all curricula areas
  10. Support University and School initiative related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  11. Assist with university and program accreditation (HLC, CAEP, DESE, and/or other)
  12. Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Earned Master’s degree in Education from a four-year, accredited university.

Certification/License: Missouri Elementary Teaching Certification (or ability to attain certification)

Experience: Successful experience teaching in an elementary setting(post-Master’s degree)

Skills: Integration of technology and online course management system in teaching; strong communication skills; collaboration skills; ability to work well with others toward common goals; strong organizational skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s degree in Education

Experience: At leastthree years of post-master's degree teaching in an elementary setting; Project Lead the Way experience; Microsoft excel expertise; experience with digital learning platforms and school information systems

WORKING CONDITIONS: Collaborative team-based academic environment in a university-based laboratory school.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL: Willing to be able to acquire/maintain required travel credentials and participate in international study away with faculty and teacher candidates.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Will supervise teacher candidates, practicum students, and graduate assistants

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED:Interactive SMART Board, iPads, laptop computers, document cameras, and emerging technologies.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Actively instructing elementary students from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the regular school year (January – May). Instruction of Practicum students may occur from 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Participation in after school committees and faculty meetings as assigned. Ability to complete essential classroom functions and lift up to 20 pounds.
