Position: GM Older People’s Network Development Worker

Salary: £24,892

Hours: 35 hours per week (flexi-time system)Attendance at evening meetings may be required occasionally. Time off in lieu is available.

Contract:initially to 31st March 2019.

Reporting to:Active Communities Manager

Main purpose of the post

To work with the Greater Manchester Older People’s Network to develop engagement approaches that enable older people to influence public decisions, service provision and, in particular, the Ambition for Ageing Programme. The post will promote an asset based approach to community development, working collectively with older people to bring about positive change and social justice.

Main Duties

Increasing the influence of service users

  • To enable the Greater Manchester Older People’s Network to:
  • Identify their own needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities.
  • Plan, organise and take collective action using their strengths and resources.
  • Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of that action
  • Develop their confidence and skills.
  • Influence the planning, commissioning, design and delivery of services and campaign for positive change.
  • To support the development of wider engagement mechanisms through means such as consultation, facilitation and linking with user groups.
  • Support the Greater Manchester Older People’s Network to communicate its work to target audiences.

Supporting Greater Manchester Older People’s Network

  • Deliver a programme of work to support the Network on the basis of peer support and involvement. This will include the organisation of GMPON meetings but will also require a creative approach to ensure the network is collectively owned by its members and engages and involves a wide range of older people across GM that is representative of all our communities.
  • Promote principles of co-production, co-design and participation.
  • Develop relationships with relevant organisations in Greater Manchester (including GMCVOand Local Delivery Leads) to support and develop older people’s involvement, providing advice and assistance on best practice where required.
  • Maintain good communications with everyone involved.
  • Provide informal mentoring for individuals as occasionally required.
  • Manage a participation budget to ensure that so far as possible people involved have access to relevant training to ensure they feel confident and are able to develop the skills needed to beactively involved and are not excluded from participation by practical issues such as travel costs.

Monitoring and evaluation

  • Maintain a database of contacts and records of support provided to groups, organisations and individuals.
  • Ensure that the impact of the work is recorded and monitored and to provide verbal and written reports as required.

  • Responding to enquiries and administration
  • To contribute to income generation and general fundraising, including providing charged for services on a consultancy basis where required.
  • To undertake training as required.
  • To work as a member of Macc team, and to contribute to the development of policy and good practice within Macc.
