Walnut Homework: Radio Advert – 20th January

When writing an advert it is vital that you know the purpose and the audience (who the advert is aimed at) so it appeals to them!

1) Write an approximately 30 second radio advert to try to persuade sporty/healthy people to visit a chocolate factory.

Information you must include in your advert:

Cadbury’s Chocolate Factory

Birmingham, England.

Open all Year round

2) Write an approximately 30 second radio advert to try to encourage old people to visit a fun fair.

Information you must include in your advert:

Parklands Fun Park

Open from April – October

3) Have you ever heard these clichés: He could sell ice to the Inuit Tribe (Eskimos), he could sell a cape to Superman, he could sell wood to a forest, he could sell hay to a farmer. These clichés show that someone is so good at selling; they could sell products to people who don’t need it.

Create your own invention – it may be a rather ridiculous invention such as a chocolate teapot or a “Get out of Bed Flinginator”. Write an approximately 30 second radio advert to persuade people to buy it!

Don’t forget you also need to include all the features of persuasive writing :

  • Alliteration
  • Word play
  • Facts
  • Opinions
  • Rhetorical Questions
  • Emotive Language – be personal to your audience think about what they like.
  • Superlatives – describe things as the most or least
  • Addition Connectives: besides, furthermore, also
  • As it is a radio advert you will need to make it snappy and so that it grabs the attention of the listener!
  • You will read these at school so you will lots of expression in your voice when you perform.

Pleasealso remember the key writing skills:

  • Punctuation (Everyone’s work must have all capital letters and full stops)
  • Exciting, persuasive vocabulary

  • A clear structure with paragraphs for effect

Remember, every Piece of Writing Counts!
