Role Overview:
Communicators in CSIRO work in an agency style and are deployed across the organisation on both short and long-term projects, as needed. This current role has responsibility for the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) account. The role involves developing strategic direction, creating and maintaining stakeholder engagement, web and social channel content management, media liaison and raising the profile of the ALA.
The Communication Advisor will provide communication advice and expertise to drive activities and campaigns to effectively build the ALA and CSIRO brands with key target audiences.
Duties and Key Result Areas:
·  Develop strategies and communication plans to promote the ALA and support engagement with key external and internal audiences.
·  Develop social media strategies and content, and manage existing channels.
·  Oversee and contribute to the development of web content.
·  Develop printed, digital and multimedia content to support the strategic promotion of programs.
·  Utilising communications expertise and / or domain knowledge, develop strong trusted advisor relationships across CSIRO business units, business development team and other stakeholders to deliver communication priorities.
·  Develop strategies and the processes to evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities, including the usability and impact of the ALA website.
·  Identify critical internal stakeholders and establish networks to gain support for communication activities, particularly innovative ones that will have maximum impact.
·  Provide leadership that fosters an environment that encourages new ideas and provides support for the development of emerging skills and innovative approaches.
·  Strive for “Zero Harm” (physical and psychological) and promote a strong safety culture through active management of HSE performance.
·  Communicate effectively and respectfully with all staff, clients and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation.
·  Work collaboratively with colleagues within your team, the business unit and across CSIRO, to reach objectives and establish networks with other teams and professionals in their field.
·  Adhere to the spirit and practice of CSIRO’s Values, Health, Safety and Environment plans and policies, Diversity initiatives and Zero Harm goals.
This role operates within the wider CSIRO communication team which is a flexible and responsive resource. Other duties outside ALA may be required on a short or long-term basis, as needed.

Pre-Requisites:
1.  Education/Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in a relevant area, such as communication, marketing or journalism and/or relevant industry experience.
2.  Communication: The ability to clearly convey information and ideas, adapt to others needs and priorities, and establish effective interpersonal relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
3.  Behaviours: A history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative environment.
4.  Problem Solving: Proven ability to investigate the underlying issues of complex and ill-defined problems and develop appropriate responses by adapting/creating and testing alternative solutions.
Essential Criteria:
1.  Demonstrated experience in the development of communication plans and the ability to project manage events with experience in areas such as media relations, public relations, government affairs or communications.
2.  Demonstrated experience working across a diverse range of communication projects.
3.  Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and manage social media channels.
4.  The ability to work effectively in a team environment, proactively collaborating and consulting with internal and external stakeholders, as well as sharing resources to accomplish objectives.
5.  Demonstrated ability to adapt readily to changing circumstances and new responsibilities, and to operate well with situations that lack clarity in order to achieve team objectives.
