3.RMIT BUSINESS

RMIT Business is one of the largest Business Schools in Australia and is based at 239 Bourke Street in Melbourne’s Central Business District. Established in 1944 it is now the largest Faculty at RMIT University with around 480 staff working with approximately 19,500 students in Australia and overseas. RMIT Business earns almost three-quarters of its annual revenue from non-Government sources and is highly entrepreneurial and outward looking in its vision.

3.THE OFFICE OF THE DEAN

The Office of the Dean comprises around 90 full time staff and fulfils a range of corporate functions for the Faculty. It provides information technology & multimedia services, support for online delivery, commercialisation and international operations, training and consultancy services. Other Groups operating within the Office of the Dean include the Research Development Unit and Transport Research Centre.

ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT UNIT

The Academic Development Unit supports academic and teaching staff in the HE and VET sectors of RMIT Business in developing and improving teaching and learning in accordance with the Teaching & Learning Strategy and the Program Quality Assurance processes of the University and Faculty. Specifically, the Unit provides leadership within the Faculty on teaching and learning scholarship, research and innovation, associated staff development, and support for program renewal, review and accreditation. It is also responsible for work-integrated learning programs within the Faculty.

4.JOB SUMMARY

The Project Officer Academic Development is to undertake a range of projects on behalf of the Manager, Academic Development Unit. The person will also be responsible for implementing new initiatives.

5.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Manager, Academic Development Unit. No position reports to this position.

6.SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Position Accountabilities

6.1To undertake project work on the basis of briefs provided by the Manager to assist in the implementation within the Faculty of the following:

  • In consultation with Schools and with support from Program Renewal team develop a Professional Development program to enable staff to share a common understanding of the capability curriculum, internationalisation, flexibility, sustainability, information and other key literacies which form the main thrusts in the Universities Teaching and Learning Strategies.
  • Develop a Workshop program for program leaders and course co-ordinators to ensure understanding of Program Quality Assurance (PQA) processes and relevant actions required by for particular programs/courses.
  • Develop an RMIT Business Database for planning and management of Programs and Courses Information including internal and external accreditation cycles, professional body requirements and timing, on and offshore offerings, articulation agreements, Faculty and/or School ownership
  • Prepare an RMIT Business Teaching and Learning Manual for all academics and teachers setting out University policies, simple process maps and flowcharts to guide adherence to policy, form letters, summary and exemplars of University Teaching and Learning priorities and how to put them in to practice, simple instructions, guidelines and templates for including descriptions of capability outcomes and their assessment in program and course guides, sources of assistance and who to approach within the Faculty etc
  • Devise a new plan by developing a methodology/approach to integrate the analysis of key performance indicators including Good University Guide, Student Satisfaction Survey, CEQ and relevant management information (scalability, completion rates, employability) about programs and integrate into Continuous Improvement Plan across all programs within PQA and the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) guidelines.
  • Other projects within time constraints and according to priorities.

Some projects have a finite life, others will be transferred to mainstream operations once they are implemented and a third group will be ongoing for the foreseeable future.

6.2To conduct background research, prepare documentation, and make recommendations in response to operational briefs on projects.

6.3To liaise with a wide range of colleagues in RMIT Business and the central units in performing duties associated with each project.

6.4To attend meetings and provide informed responses to a range of issues raised on behalf of the Manager, Academic Development.

6.5Other related duties as directed within the scope of this classification.

6.6To contribute to the strategic direction setting and policy making processes of the University and the Unit by participating in key Group, Section and University forums and undertaking specific Section level projects/tasks.

6.7To assume joint responsibility for career development by participating in various activities and by producing a development plan that assists in personal and professional development, consistent with the strategic goals of RMIT Business Resources Group.

6.8To develop a network of colleagues in similar roles in other parts of RMIT University

7.QUALIFICATIONS.

Mandatory:Tertiary qualifications in a relevant business discipline or in education.

8.KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

8.1Significant experience in a tertiary environment, with extensive knowledge of RMIT Business being highly desirable.

8.2Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

8.3A flexible and innovative approach and the ability to work well with colleagues as part of project related teams.

8.4Excellent organizational and project management skills, able to prioritise work requirements and undertake several parallel projects at the same time and work to deadlines.

8.5Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.

8.6High level of competence in common office software packages

8.7Sound understanding of the needs of students and key client groups
