Job Requirements: Minimum of one-year experience in working with emotionally disturbed and learning disabled populations in special education, mental health, and/or other direct service capacities required. Bachelor’s degree in education or other related human services discipline preferred. Demonstrates skills and abilities in working with emotionally disturbed, oppositional, and aggressive youth. Have knowledge, skills, and ability in behavior management techniques, behavior modification, and principals of child/adolescent development. Demonstrates good written and verbal skills and ability to function as part of a multi-disciplinary educational and treatment team. Must have valid Virginia Drivers License. Must be physically able to manage students as necessary.

Job Summary:The primary responsibilities of this position are to: provide individual and group behavior teaching and counseling to SED students; implement lesson plans in accordance with Individual Education Plan (IEP) requirements as assigned; maintain classroom supplies and equipment for daily instructions as needed; maintain student records as appropriate in compliance with applicable licensing and accreditation standards; participate in ongoing student evaluations and treatment planning as requested; provide other support services for the classroom as assigned.

  12. Attends all required agency meetings and trainings and other educational functions as required to improve professional skills and competence.
  13. Arrives on time daily to begin work at scheduled times.
  14. Maintains attendance record within prescribed Agency guidelines: provides payroll with attendance sheets in a timely and correct manner.
  15. Extends a helping hand to co-workers in a courteous and professional manner.
  16. Utilizes tools/equipment and supplies as instructed and in a manner for purpose intended. Returns equipment and supplies to proper areas after use.
  17. Reports any safety hazards or injuries immediately to supervisor/manager.
  18. Exhibits correct lifting procedures and practices to avoid injury.

II.Responsibilities of Position

  1. Provide behavioral instructions to students in accordance in the Individual Educational Plans and in accordance with the daily schedule.
  2. Implement behavioral intervention plans in accordance with program procedures and applicable licensing and accreditation standards.
  3. Implement lesson plans appropriate to the age and ability level of the student as requested.
  4. Maintain classroom supplies and equipment as required to carry out daily lesson plans, instructions, and activities.
  5. Ensures that adequate materials are available to implement daily instruction and activities.
  6. Provide assistance in maintaining student attendance, assisting in grading of assignments, and school lunches as requested or assigned.
  7. Participates in development of behavioral treatment plans and goals for students in program staff meetings and other meetings as scheduled.
  8. Maintains assigned documentation in a timely and appropriate manner as required by licensing and accreditation standards related to student attendance, progress, and problems.
  9. Accompany students on field trips and in other activities to provide instruction, monitor behavior, and provide appropriate behavioral interventions as needed and required.
  10. Must be physically able to manage students as necessary.
  11. Assist in development of new/expanded programs.
  12. Attends all MEC meetings as required.
  13. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of MEC policies and procedures.
  14. Attends training and other educational functions as required to improve professional skills and competence.
  15. Represents MEC at various community meetings as requested.
  16. Delivers oral and written presentations to community groups, referring agencies, and church groups as requested.
  17. Communicates in a professional manner to referral sources.
  18. Treats families and referring agencies with dignity and respect.
