POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:COOLAMON EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTRE MANAGER

Reports to: Executive Manager, Corporate and Community Services

Directorate: Corporate and Community Services

Supervises: Early Childhood Educators

Grade: Band 3 Level 3a – Band 3 Level 3k

Relationships: Executive Managers; other Council staff; commercial, industrial and development professionals and contractors; and members of the public.

Position Summary

Acceptance of the role of Nominated Supervisor under the Children (Education and Care Services National Law Application) Bill 2010 and Education and Care Services National Regulations.

As the Centre Manager, Nominated Supervisor and Educational Leader, this position is responsible to oversee the operations of the service as well as lead, guide and support a team which provides high quality early childhood education and care to children.

Work Health and Safety

Council has a duty of care under Work Health and Safety Legislation to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of workers. This includes requirements to eliminate or minimise risks to health and safety.

To minimise risk and assist in protecting workers in employment at Council, workers are required to meet the inherent requirements of the position.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be the Educational Leader of the service;
  • Take on all duties and responsibilities of Nominated Supervisor
  • To work in accordance with the requirements of the Children (Education and Care Services National Law Application)Bill 2010, NESA and the National Quality Standard for Early Education and Care;
  • To be the responsible person in charge of the service and in absence ensure that another responsible person (as defined by the National law) is in charge of the service;
  • To work in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the Early Childhood Australia;
  • To implement the service’s philosophy in undertaking all other duties;
  • To comply with the policies and procedures of the service and Coolamon Shire Council
  • Provide ongoing support and assistance in all areas of administrative procedures, curriculum development, parent and community liaison, staff professional development and training, and any other areas as the need arises
  • Any other duties as directed and considered relevant to the role and area of responsibility.

Position Criteria

Qualifications, Certificates and Licences

  1. Class C Drivers licence
  2. Degree in Early Childhood Teaching or equivalent and recognised under the BOSTES Accreditation
  3. Clear Working with Children Check
  4. Current First Aid Certificate, Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management training
  5. DEC approved child protection training certificate

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

  1. Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, regulations, Awards, industrial agreements, policy and procedures
  2. Solid communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills including sound conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  3. Solid time management, planning, administrative and computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software packages.
  4. Previous Local Government experience
