POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Student Navigator, Student Affairs

  • This is a full-time position at the Marietta Campus.
  • Employment is with Chattahoochee Technical College and not with an individual campus. All employees are subject to work relocation based on college needs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Leading the Complete College Georgia initiative for the college, the Student Navigator develops and coordinates retention-focused systems and services to be used by advisors, faculty members, and other staff to assist all aspects of the college with student retention efforts. The Student Navigator will occasionally conduct focused academic advising and student support services directly with students to help them persist in their programs of study. The Student Navigator will primarily be responsible for overseeing all retention efforts college-wide, serving as the Project Manager and liaison with TCSG for all retention efforts such as, but not limited to: Complete College Georgia, the TCSG Early Alert Management System, and Go Back, Move Ahead. The Student Navigator gathers statistical information, develops strategies to retain students, assesses college progress with student retention, keeps administration informed and develops and submits reports to TCSG and other entities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or an equivalent field.
  • A minimum of Two (2) years of professional related experience in a college setting.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

SALARY/BENEFITS

  • $41,566.16 annual salary.
  • Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program.

JOB SUMMARY

Leading the Complete College Georgia initiative for the college, the Student Navigatordevelops and coordinates retention-focused systems and services to be used by advisors, faculty members, and other staff to assist all aspects of the college with student retention efforts. The Student Navigator will primarily be responsible for overseeing all retention efforts college-wide serving as the project manager and liaison with The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) for all retention efforts.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Develops and maintains working relationships with students, Academic Affairs, StudentAffairs, and Financial Aid departments to facilitate advisement, academic progress review, and implementinnovative retention programs and services for new, at-risk and enrolled students.
  • Leads the Complete College Georgia initiative as well as related college and system initiatives such as,but not limited to the TCSG Early Alert Management System (TEAMS), and Go Back, Move Ahead to support college persistence and retention.
  • Develops retention strategies.
  • Assesses retention strategies: collects and complies data; informs administration of progress; crafts progress reports and submits according to college, system, local, state, or federal parameters and timelines.
  • Coordinates and/or provides supportive services to improve academic persistence and success.
  • Coordinates, tracks, reports, and uses retention data research and analysis, using Banner, KMS, TEAMS and

other resources, to identify obstacles to student achievement and retention.

  • Coordinates services with relevant college departments and community agencies.
  • Designs, coordinates, and targets new intervention services, programs, and initiatives focused onstudent retention and development.
  • Provides information on targeted career and educational pathways.
  • Occasionally conducts focused academic advising and student support services directly with students to help them persist in their programs of study.
  • Participates in the TCSG Student Navigator peer group.
  • May supervise Student Affairs specialists and/or assistants.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Executive Director of Retention assigns work in terms of unit goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports and observation of unit activities.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the State Board of Technical and Adult Education Policy and Procedures Manual, Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state legislation, policy and guidelines. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied specialized duties. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide specialized support for student affairs functions. Success in this position contributes to the retention of students and the efficient and effective operation of the retention unit.
