POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: CAMPUS POLICE OFFICER – (Part-time)
- This is a part-time position.
- Employment is with Chattahoochee Technical College and not with an individual campus. All employees are subject to work relocation based on college needs.
- Any applicant offered employment in this position is required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, patrols assigned areas and ensures safety of campus buildings and grounds for the technical college. This position manages traffic flow and enforces parking regulations. Investigates traffic incidents, vandalism, theft, violence and may arrest perpetrators of crimes. Position also performs administrative duties. This position requires P.O.S.T. certification (In good Standing), completion of yearly continuing education mandates, periodic firearm qualification and a valid driver's license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma required.
- Graduation from a P.O.S.T. Certified Georgia Police Academy.
- Must have and continue to maintain P.O.S.T. Certification.
- Must have successfully completed an In-service Field Training Officer program.
- Must be able to successfully complete Weapons Proficiency AND Use of Force certifications.
- No felony convictions.
- Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
- Three years working experience with a Department of Public Safety.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the minimum qualifications listed in the Job Description)
- Previous working experience in law enforcement in a college or other school environment.

POST-Certified Police Officer FIN/37
Facilities FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
This position provides security to campus personnel, students, visitors, buildings, facilities, equipment and property as a POST-Certified Police Officer.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Patrols an assigned area and checks campus buildings for unauthorized personnel during and after closing hours; maintains visibility on campus grounds.
- Maintains a working knowledge of fire alarm systems and escape routes.
- Monitors surveillance cameras.
- Assists in the orientation of new students.
- Maintains parking permit and student, faculty and staff database.
- Maintains inventory of emergency medical and first aid supplies and equipment.
- Inspects fire extinguishers
- Responds to emergency medical situations and administers first aid as appropriate.
- Responds to intrusion and fire alarms.
- Manages traffic flow and enforces parking regulations; issues tickets to violators.
- Investigates traffic incidents, vandalism, theft and acts of violence.
- Performs administrative duties; completes activity reports on a regular basis; properly maintains files and reports in a neat and orderly manner.
- Provides direction and assistance to other non-certified Security Officers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.Additional certifications may be required for specialized assignments.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of law enforcement equipment, techniques and best practices.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and ordinances and of college policies and regulations.
- Knowledge of campus safety and security procedures.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of security systems, fire alarm panels and panic alarm systems.
- Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Assistant Public Safety Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include federal, state and local law and college rules and regulations. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related campus security duties. Unexpected and emergency situations contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to provide security for Chattahoochee Technical College students, faculty, staff, visitors, buildings, and property. Success in this position contributes to a safe campus environment.

- Contacts are typically with students, faculty, staff, and representatives of other law enforcement agencies, local business and community leaders, and members of the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of specialized protective devices.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position may have functional supervision over Security Guards as assigned.
