Athlete & Parent/Guardian Conduct Agreement

This document is an agreement between Portsmouth Youth Cheerleading Association (PYCA) and each individual who participates in our program. This agreement sets forth the Rules of Conduct and expectations for the Cheerleaders and their parent/guardian(s). The purpose of the cheerleading squads shall be to support, encourage, and motivate the football team by cheering and showing good sportsmanship. Our goal is for every participant to have a positive experience while having every opportunity to excel.

Please read the following carefully. By signing the Conduct Agreement , cheerleader AND parents are showing full understanding and are acknowledging the rules, regulations, and commitment required to be a participant in the PYCA program.

Rules of Conduct:

1.Attendance: Each Cheerleader is expected to attend ALL practices, games, and events. Cheerleaders may only be excused for the following reasons: A. Family Obligations B. Illness C. School and D. Religious Obligations. Absences are only considered excused if the Coach has been notified in advance by a parent or guardian only. Unexcused absences may result to reduced cheer time and possibly asked to leave the team without a refund. Any cheerleader who misses 3 games, unexcused, will be removed from the team.

2.Equipment: Each Cheerleader is responsible for and must return all uniforms and equipment in good condition or forfeit the uniform deposit and may pay additional replacement costs for any lost equipment. Equipment and uniforms must not be loaned out or used by anyone other than the original cheerleader to whom they were issued. Uniforms are to be used at games and events only as set forth by the Head Coach. Any cheerleader who quits or is dismissed from a team must return all uniforms and PYCA equipment immediately.

3.Fundraising: Fundraising is essential to the successful operation of our program. Each cheerleader is required to participate in fundraising activities organized by the Board of Directors. Parents are also required to help with fundraising as needed by the organization.

4.Transportation: It is the parent’s responsibility to provide transportation to and from all practices and games. Please do not ask coaches to transport your child. Each cheerleader is to be dropped off and picked up at the specified practice or game location ON TIME. Parents are to stay with their child until the coaches have arrived. Please be on time to pick your child up at the end of each game or practice.

5.Medical Information Release: You must complete and submit the following: Physical, Medical payment Release, and Athlete medical release form. No cheerleader is allowed to participate in practice or games without the forms.

6.Discipline: Will be given out at the Coaches discretion for violations including, but not limited to the following: (A separate list will be on another page)

a.Tardiness

b.Disrespect towards any adult, team member, coaching staff, football team, and opposing teams.

c.Negative attitude at practices, games, or official activities.

After receiving and disciplinary action, a cheerleader may be suspended from participating in the next game. A cheerleader must still attend the game in full uniform; failure to do so will be an unexcused absence.

Any cheerleader who is suspended three times during the season will be dismissed from the team.

7.Use of Controlled or Illegal Substances:

a.No smoking or use of tobacco-smoking or any use of tobacco by a minor is illegal and dangerous to an athlete’s health.

b.No possession or drinking of alcoholic beverages-Possession and or consumption of alcohol by a minor is illegal.

c.No possession, use, or sales of illegal drugs-athletes using recreational or performance enhancing drugs can and will hurt their bodies and their team.

8.Misconduct: Includes, but is not limited to:

a.Leaving an event in anger or interrupting a game or practice with unsportsmanlike behavior.

b.Inappropriate language, threats, or gestures directed at a teammate, coach, official, spectator, or opponent

c.Inappropriate behavior at any activity or function by an athlete representing PYCA.

9.Gross Misconduct: Includes, but is not limited to:

a.Stealing, vandalism, or other criminal acts related to PYCA of the community at large. Any of the listed will be investigated by the coaching staff and Board of Directors. If a violation is confirmed, disciplinary action will be taken. A minimum of ten days for the first offense and removal from the team for any second offense.

b.Assault upon a teammate, coach, official, opponent, or spectator will result in immediate dismissal from the team.

10.Additional Rules: Cheerleaders must obey any additional rules set by their Head Coaches (With Approval of the Board of Directors)

Penalties: Any cheerleader who violates any of the above Rules of Conduct will face immediate disciplinary actions and possible dismissal.

Disciplinary Hearing Process: After any violation of the Rules of Conduct, the cheerleader and her parent(s)/guardian(s) will be notified. Following notification, parent/guardians have ten days in which to request, in writing, a hearing with the Board of Directors. Any cheerleader whose dismissal is upheld will forfeit all awards and honors.
