POSITION TITLE:Environmental Services Assistant

REPORTS TO:Hotel Services Manager

PURPOSE

The Environmental Services Assistant personnel is responsible for the effective and efficient cleaning of their work station, public toilets, staff areas, offices, corridors, entrance ways and external areas, incorporating an effective waste disposal system. PDH’s primary role is to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients, residents, staff and visitors.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Ability to work as part of a team and to work closely with departments.

To be able to work with minimal supervision.

Punctuality and reliability.

A high standard of personal hygiene.

Willingness to be redeployed at discretion of Hotel Services Manager and in times of low activity.

Prior experience in cleaning an advantage but not essential, as on the job training will be provided.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A reasonable level of fitness and dexterity is required in order to successfully undertake the duties,

which include linen deliveries, wheeling trolleys, handling stores and maneuvering cleaning

equipment.

Waste Management

Observing hospital polices in relation to waste minimisation and recycling.

Infection Control

Performing duties so as to eliminate any risk of transferring infection from one source to another.

Maintaining a high level of personal hygiene.

Maintaining a high level of cleaning practice by ensuring cleaning activities comply with the ACHS EQuIP standards and DHS Cleaning Standards for Victorian Public Hospitals.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Observing the utmost confidentiality over patient, staff and hospital information.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Continuing Education

Attending training seminars.

Attend Compulsory Training Day annually.

Performance Appraisal

Participating in the Hospital’s annual performance appraisal as per the hospital’s policy.

DUTIES

Follow check sheets specified for specific areas.

Maintaining sufficient stores in areas as designated.

Maintaining work areas in a safe, clean and hygienic manner.

Collection of and removal of waste in hospital external surrounds.

Washing, cleaning and storing items in a hygienic manner.
