Club Visits: The club visits for 2011 are nearly completed. If there any clubs that have not made contact with panel member to visit your club this year. If not, could you let me know tonight, so I can organize a visit.

The “K” practical day for the candidates who sat their written paper in July will be finalized when we can find a free day in November.

I wish to extend the Panel’s sympathy to Sam and Tim Fechner upon the death of Tim’s father in a farming accident. Sam is Margaret Battye’s daughter.

We are hoping to hold an ABK weekend, the last weekend of May 2012. Would any club like to volunteer to host this weekend?

I will be asking the CIP Panel when the starting date will be for the 40K ride not to be compulsory but an option, on the 3/11/11.

BARWON ZONE EXAMINING SECRETARY : Maxene Argento read Margaret Battye’s report in her absence.

Well, this year has been a busy one regarding certificate candidates. A big thank to all the clubs and candidates for being so prompt in submitting their applications. It makes everything run smoothly.

And an even bigger thanks to all the examiners that give up their time for Pony Club.

There have been 7 K, 1 C* and 1 B candidate applications received for sitting the first weekend in December 2011. Good luck to all these candidates.

A reminder that all ‘C’ candidates’ applications for March 2012 need to be in by the 10th February 2012.

That gives a few days after the first rally in 2012. An updated Certificate shall be on the Barwon Zone website early next year.

Could all clubs please make sure the CORRECT FEES accompany applications. This saves writing extra Cheques and a lot of going back and forth. The correct fees are on the relevant forms on the zone website.

May you all have a Merry Christmas.

ZONE EVENTS SECRETARY: Coral Byrne spoke in Caroline Shirra’s absence.

The BZ Dressage & S/J Qualifying Championships will be held on Sunday 20th November, 2011 and will be hosted by Corio/Moorabool Pony Club at Elcho Park.

Could all entries be entered on the one official entry form with 1 cheque from the club, please.

There has been a change to Grade 3. If there are large numbers of entries this year – there will be 2 sections and ribbons for both sections. A ride off will be held with the 1st six place getters in each section but no ribbons awarded – this competition will decide the selection of riders for states.

ZONE REPRESENTATIVE: Deirdre Davey

The final at Ballan – we will need 2 representatives from each host club and the Presentations will be mounted.

SENIOR RIDERS GROUP – Greg Potter

In January this year, the Barwon Zone granted approval for an Associate Riders Group – a group aged 17 years and over to meet for riding and social purposes.

Sherryn Smith and Yvonne McDonald from Ballarat PC and Barb Griffiths, Judy Slater and myself from Colac PC have been the main organisers of the group. So far there have been 16 riders from Ballarat, Colac, Drysdale/Leopold, Lochard and Smythesdale participate in the group.

The first rally was held in may at Ballarat, followed by a second at Colac in August and a third rally in September at Ballarat. Approximately 8 – 10 riders have attended each rally with two instructors organised to teach and mentor the riders. The feedback from both instructors and riders has been enthusiastic and encouraging with all participants enjoying the rallies.

In October we held our first s0cial evening where the riders came together for a meal and then enjoyed listening to two guest speakers- a vet and a university student undertaking a research project on obesity in ponies. Unfortunately the night clashed with the Ballarat Horse Trials, however those who came enjoyed the opportunity to talk further with the guest speakers.

A yearly calendar has been submitted to the zone for dates in 2012 and we hope that this will enable these senior riders, juggling other commitments, to set aside time and continue enjoying riding their horses.

Reports were moved for acceptance by Ian Box and Seconded by Roz Lonie Carried

GENERAL BUSINESS

Coral congratulated Corio/Moorabool on their 50th Birthday Celebrations in September.

Coral also congratulated and thanked all in Barwon Zone who helped out at the Nationals recently. Jan Calaby commented on how great the Mt. Duneed riders looked dressed in their PC uniforms going around collecting the dressage test papers. Philip Cobbledick commented that the number of hours put by the people of this zone at the Nationals was very large. There were some grizzles about the amount of money spent or the lack of, for the Nationals. Victoria put on an A Grade Effort which was supported by many volunteers and sponsors and costs were neutral. It costs about $1,000,000 to put on the Nationals event and PCAV managed to make a profit. Philip hoped everyone from Barwon zone had a great time. Philip complimented Coral for coming up with an interim perpetual trophy – a dinner plate, when the real one was missing!!!!
