Policies and Procedures for Physical Education

Time

1.  Students must be in the gym when the bell rings AND sitting in their assigned area.

2.  After attendance is taken in the gym, students will be dismissed to the locker rooms and allowed 3 minutes to change and report back to their learning station.

3.  At the end of the hour, students will be dismissed to the locker rooms to change allowing at least 3 minutes.

4.  Students must stay inside the locker rooms until the bell rings.

5.  Any student caught leaving early will be counted as TRUANT.

Locker Rooms

1.  Each student will be assigned a combination lock and locker. Neither the lock nor the combination should be shared with anyone.

2.  The Physical Education Department is not responsible for anything lost or stolen.

3.  Do not leave anything outside of your locker unlocked.

4.  Glass containers or aerosol cans of any kind are not allowed.

5.  Take pride in yourself and your school. Pick up all garbage and do not leave a mess in the locker room.

Uniforms

1.  Changing clothes for Physical Education class is required for both indoor and outdoor activities.

2.  A complete uniform shall consist of:

  1. Cut-off t-shirts and tank tops are not allowed.
  2. Shorts and pants may NOT have zippers, belt loops or front and side pockets.
  3. Non-marking lace able tennis shoes are required. Athletic sandals and platform shoes are not allowed for safety reasons.
  4. Sweatshirts and sweatpants are recommended for outdoor activities.

3.  Uniforms should be taken home and cleaned FREQUENTLY.

4.  Forgetting your uniform is not an excused for not participating in class; students may borrow a uniform from one of the Phys. Ed. teachers and it must be returned at the end of the class period.

Safety

1.  No jewelry is to be worn in class.

2.  No candy or gum in allowed in class, the gyms or in the weight room.

3.  Do not touch or use any equipment without the teacher’s permission.

Excuses and Injuries

1.  If a student is unable to fully participate due to injury or illness, he/she must bring a written parent/guardian or doctor note to class. The student will not be automatically excused from class activities. The teacher and student together will determine what the student’s participation limits are and appropriate activity.

2.  Report all injuries to your teacher immediately.

3.  Long-term injuries may require the student to be on a MODIFIED PE PROGRAM involving written work and modified activity.

Swimming

1.  1st semester students will swim on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd through WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 24th. 2nd semester students will swim TUESDAY, MARCH 22nd through TUESDAY, APRIL 12th.

2.  Students must bring their own swimsuits, towels will be provided. If you forget your swimsuit, one will be provided for you.

3.  Girls are to wear a ONE-PIECE swimsuit or a two-piece with a t-shirt over their swimsuit (t-shirts CANNOT be white).

4.  Students will also need to bring any items they will need to shower and get ready after swimming before returning to Century Junior High School.

5.  ONLY doctor’s notes will be accepted to excuse students from swimming. ALL other absences are considered UNEXCUSED and must be made-up with swimming after school arranged with the WSI at the pool.

Make-up Work

1.  Make-up work is required for ALL absences.

2.  In order to make-up an absence, 30 minutes of activity is required per absence. Activities can include, but are not limited to, after school weight training, rollerblading, basketball practice, step aerobics class, snowboarding, skateboarding and backyard football.

3.  Each absence will need to be made-up within TWO WEEKS of the absence (unless special circumstances apply). If the absence is not made-up within the two-week time frame, the student’s grade will be affected.

4.  Make-up forms are located in both the Women’s and Men’s Phys. Ed. offices and the 9th grade gymnasium.
