TEACHER POSITION DESCRIPTION

COLLEGE POLICIES

1.Teacher’s Responsibilities

The teacher must:

a.Develop an educational program in accordance with the grade level being taught and in accordance with the Victorian Curriculum.

b.Maintain the discipline during class time and instil an appropriate code of conduct.

c.Be qualified and recognised through the Victorian Institute of Teachers or have the appropriate teaching capabilities

d.Undertake a minimum 20 hours professional development per year

e.Uphold the values of the school and actively supports the school President and Board of Management in his/her duties

2.Teacher’s Responsibilities with the School

The teacher must:

a.Arrive at the School at least 10 minutes before classes commence.

b.Call the roll list and leave register before leaving the school unless otherwise agreed.

c.Attend meetings, from time to time, as required by the Board of Management and Coordinator

d.Have at least one lesson prepared in advance with a copy left in the office, to be used by a replacement teacher in their absence.

e.Give 24 hours notice if they are not attending their class to the school via the Coordinator or a Board of Management member to allow the arrangement of a replacement teacher.

f.Supervise the students while in class and ensure that they do not interfere with any material belonging to the day school, (books, boards, any decoration of class work left in the classroom by the students).

g.Ensure that the students remain in the classroom during class times and out of the rooms during recess.

h.In case of an emergency, not leave the classroom. He/she must notify a Board member via a student accompanied by another student.

i.Ensure that students from years Prep to Grade 3 are collected by their parent/guardian from the actual classroom once the bell has gone for the evening.

j.Ensure students do not remain in the classroom without a teacher being present.

k.Be the last one to leave the classroom and ensure that everything is in order and in the same place as found at the start of the class (eg. boards must be left clean, papers and rubbish in bins, chairs in place, etc).

l.Must attend at least 20 hours per year of professional development and provide copies to the Coordinator or Board of Management member.

m.Must work collaboratively with the Coordinator to develop class/session plans in accordance with the Victorian Curriculum Spanish and attend meetings as required

3.Teaching Materials

The School will provide every student with basic materials upon enrolment at the start of each academic year.

The School will provide, within reason, all the basic teaching materials needed by the teachers.

4.Photocopies

Teachers are required to submit photocopy requests in advance of the day of class they need them.

5.Discipline

a.The teacher is responsible for maintaining discipline in the classroom.

b.A respectful relationship between students and teachers is expected at all times.

c.Any incident must be reported to the Coordinator or Board member and must be also entered in the corresponding register.

6.Register and Sessions Diary

The teacher must:

a.Maintain a Sessions’ Diary, including details of topics covered in the class with a brief comment regarding development of the grade.

b.Register and archive student’s class work. Note progress made by each student to enable proper assessment and preparation of school reports.

7.Students Performance and Report

a.Students will receive a performance report twice a year (at the end of each semester). Parents are encouraged to discuss their child’s progress with the teachers at any time during the year.

b.New students will be assessed by the coordinator and based on this initial assessment allocated to grades. The coordinator will follow up on the student’s progress by communicating with the respective teacher to gauge whether the student is apt for the level or whether a change to a lower/higher level is required.

c.If at any time, a student is found to be performing at a level higher than that required of them at their current level, the class teacher may recommend the student be independently assessed and moved to a higher level.

d.Subject to c. above, the independent assessment will be carried out by the coordinator or his/her nominated alternate teacher.

e.A teacher is, under no circumstances, allowed to transfer a student to a higher level without following the process in clauses c and d above.

8.Students’ Responsibilities

a.The student needs to ensure that he/she arrives on time to the class. This will avoid unnecessary interruptions.

b.Participate in class discussion, presentations and group activities as directed by their teacher.

c.Maintain his workbook in an acceptable condition.

d.Complete all pieces of work (homework included).

e.Displays acceptable behaviour towards his/her teachers, parents, peers and other members of the school community.

9.Amenities

The school will provide tea and coffee on a free of charge basis to all teachers and parents.
